for starters, it's hard to view a countries success in a governmental system in a vacuum, if a country attempted to transition to communism, they would immediately be invaded or a coup would be attempted. also, their ability to participate in the global market would be challenging, meaning that on some level they would have to be self sufficient.
the examples of communism working, or at least an attempt to communism being successful, are also hard to explain because there is a fair amount of propaganda from the US to parse through, as well as the (previous) class position of people who lived during it. in the end, it's difficult to talk about to newcomers because it all depends on how much they believe what the american mainstream media tells them and focuses on

social democracy is not good enough because it does not end imperialism, and it just exports the worst portions of capitalism to other places. Additionally, as long as workers are exploited in any capacity, the people doing the exploiting will hold the most power in society and the benefits of living in a social democracy will slowly erode.
