"She has a fat womanly ass" got me crying for some reason

I know it sounded funny but the point was I'm not attracted to kids and I resent that a****** for making me have to say so

Nah I get it. It's kinda funny ngl cuz folks was bringing up OUTAIH and using Cliff Booth as an example. And it's like even though I like that character.. he clearly murdered his wife in a throwaway joke

True and in the same way PTA portrays Alana / Gary's relationship in a positive light

We clearly supposed to find Cliff being a murdering psycho as funny just by the tone of the scene, especially since it foreshadows how he cartoonishly kills the Manson family later on.

Like, Cliff is my fave character from that movie.. but I also know he clearly killed his wife just cuz she was nagging too much lol

So in a sense I'd say that both films put us in the shoes of morally questionable characters, what you choose to stomach is up to you.

But I can't say one character is clearly better than the other in terms of morality

Well that depends if you find Quentin doing grevious harm to women in every film to be projecting his weird psyche or not

Clint liquefying that girls face left me far more rattled than Gary and Alanas finale

Bruh i actually agree with your sentiment that the romance between Gary / Alana made me uncomfortable.

But you talkin about sugar coating pedophilia when dude killed his wife and it was treated as a joke lmaoooo

He wasn't in any immediate danger, he killed his wife cuz she annoyed him lmaoo

Nah man he moved to Israel for her, this is the real deal

I read the OUATIH novel that dropped some months back and Cliff's wife death is told in GRAPHIC detail in the book
She got F***ED UP by that spear gun.

Mans regretted it immediately after too

And then that character is made to look super heroic at the end when he obliterates a teenage girl

Also can beat the s*** out of Bruce Lee

it's wild cuz all I said was that both characters in said movies have shaky morality

and I was greeted with "being a murderer and pedo are two different things" like bruh killed his wife in self defense lmaooo

Nigga killed her cuz she was nagging him and got away with it

That was played as dark comedy though. The endings to both films are supposed to be serious while having questionable morality

love how structureless and unburdened by PTA's typical unrelenting desire to underline his "IDEAS" and "THEMES" this was. it was nice to see a movie be so comfortable being about nothing in particular

  • internet buddy

That was played as dark comedy though. The endings to both films are supposed to be serious while having questionable morality

    That's my point.

twitch has understandable concerns that the film is making light of statutory rape / pedophilia. He used Cliff Booth from OUATIH asking a girl for her ID before messing with her as a comparison to how that movie better handled that s***.

And I'm saying that in the same breath OUATIH made light of some very dark s*** like having one of the main characters we're meant to sympathize with kill his wife in a throwaway joke.

And even though it's "dark comedy" it foreshadows his hair trigger temper and violent tendencies that lead into the Bruce Lee fight / Manson family murders that we see later on.

What I'm saying is that using Cliff as an example of taking the moral high ground is kinda iffy when dude literally killed his wife for virtually no reason lol

just got back from my first watch at the theater

at first it was a little jarring the lack of narrative and typical storyline but once I got used to it I realized it really added to the realism and relatability. these random scenes of kids doing funny s*** and meeting weird characters is kinda how life passes you by at that age, with memorable moments instead of a clear narrative

PTA was very skillfully reserved on this too. no flashy stuff, just being in the lives of these people and letting them carry the scenes. this is a really nice addition to his filmography, can't wait to watch it again
