I need to watch it again but romance isn't the word I would use

At no point was I thinking wow look at the romantic sparks fly between these two... It was more like high school versions of Larry David and Suzie

Here's the thing idk how to explain it, cuz for half the film I'd agree that it wasn't a romance and it's just a one-sided attraction for the most part excluding the time she was high and seemed jealous over that girl.

But the reason I keep calling it a romance is cuz that ending scene where they run to each other happens right after the incident with Joel Sach's bf where he's like "they're all just little s***s".. I'm kinda confused as to how I'm supposed to interpret that. Like is she admitting she loves him even though she knows it's flawed??

Like I said to twitch, part of me wonders if the ending is meant to
symbolize that Alana and Gary have this “arrested development” thing going on where they both are trying to escape the need to grow up and that the relationship won’t last or something. Gary calling her his wife and her just looking at him like he’s stupid makes me consider that.

I was slightly distracted my the heavy look of agreement my gf shot me when he said men are all s***s and by that point it felt like years had gone by with them drifting in and out of each other's orbits and in my head Gary was like 18 by that point so I wasn't even really thinking about the age thing anymore

Need a sober rewatch for me to even try and pretend to nutshell what the ending symbolized

Yeah because we all know how strict everyone in Hollywood is about age of consent that was clearly Weinstein's boy trying to make himself look a little less dirty

    you are kidding me right

Ngl even taking out the Weinstein context, Hollywood in the 60s was on some wild h**** s*** regardless lmao

That's the era of dudes like Russ Meyer & the Playboy Mansion and s***

It’s not tho. A grown adult shouldn’t be exposing private areas to a child.

I’m all for freeing the nipple but b**** are already a highly sexualized body part, showing that to a child is crazy.

what an american statement that last part

Weird cause you literally can't even talk about rock and roll artists from back in the day anymore without some white knight being like "PEDOPHILE" (just look at the Neil Young versus Joe Rogan thread, and Neil who's never had one accusation)
and yet twitch buys this greasy hollywood wife killer as a paragon of political correctness in the late sixties from Quentin of all people who even an armchair psychologist can tell has issues for days

I dunno, there's instances in society where breasts are exposed and it's not sexual necessarily like nude beaches or breastfeeding. If a d***s out it's always sexual

Lmao you know d***s are allowed to be out at nude beaches right?

Call me a PTA-shill any day of the week, this was amazing.

I need more of these two together. Yeah, the age gap is wrong as hell & Alana is a leeching social climbing loser, but the chemistry between them was off the charts.

All it needed was a little more Jon Peters. Greatest cokehead of the year

Don't see what underage has to do with it I know how y'all get down in Kentucky and Mississippi and s*** don't act like all America is up to date with your standards
