I don’t listen to their podcast so I have no idea if this is a bit or if he’s serious lmao
He does the reviews for The Atlantic, and has praised PTA before so
Since everybody seems to be breaking embargo I’ll go ahead as well.
This movie f***ing rips. It’s been six months so the memory of it has become a little hazy but it’s still the best thing I’ve seen this year. Having to wait to see it again has been torture. I’ve thought about it at least once a week since March. It’s frenetic, propulsive, kinetic, hilarious. One of the best paced movies I’ve ever seen. The 160 minutes flies by. There’s a half hour sequence in the middle of the movie that had me levitating in my seat. Lost count of how many times I had to do the lean forward lock in pose. Leo is giving an all timer. Penn is great. Really convincing and hateable. Benicio shows up and becomes the coolest dude on the planet for half the movie. It’s really cutting politically without ever feeling preachy. Very, very anti-ICE, anti-fascist. Some modern movies it reminds me of is No Country for Old Men with some Sicario and some Tarantino thrown in. The action is good but to me it was more about how fast paced everything was rather than one particular car chase or set piece. The whole movie felt like a rollercoaster.
It’s somewhere around the top of PTA’s filmography. I don’t think anything ever tops TWBB but the rest of the ranking is always so fluid. On any given day OBAA could be anywhere from #2 to #4.
What about Teyena Taylor's performance
Already seeing it on Wednesday but just grabbed a ticket for Thursday night cause I’ve gotta juice these numbers.
