this is literally just a random list of names I don't understand where the connection is to this project... ?
if the wrap gifts literally say Baktan Cross on them I'm kinda assuming that's in reference to the title. I rly hope they do let him keep "Battle of Baktan Cross" it's epic. could also be that whatever this is is intentionally not listing real title bc it hasn't been announced yet.
It’s a list of films the guy worked on before he passed away listed in order. PTA film was the last one he worked on

ohh hm. I dunno I still don't think a funeral card like that is the best source. we'll see, but I really hope this isn't the title ngl very lame and generic, especially for such a seamingly ambitious whacky project.

Well I mean you said you don’t see the connection, it’s clearly in reference to PTAs film but it doesn’t mean it’s the official title. These can all be working titles that were given out

no thx for explaining I didn't rly get it lol

it's def in spirit with Pynchon's love for weird and stupid names, it's an insane title for a Leo movie so that in itself I think will generate automatic social media marketing.
I think it would be a legendary move in today's film climate so rly rooting for it

For sure homie! We all just waiting for PTA himself to finally say something lol

Matt Belloni clears the air regarding BAKTAN/BATTLE's rumored push to 2026 on this week's episode of KCRW's The Business. Still looks like it's set for this August.
Action starts around the 2:45 mark...

test screening happening tonight
Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest screened on Thursday evening in Phoenix. Anderson was in attendance, and in good spirits. This is going to be one lengthy film — the film clocked in at 2 hours 50 minutes. The cut shown looked “close to finished.”
We finally have some concrete details about this one, which screened to enthusiastic reactions. Obviously, as with all such screenings, it’s very hard to really know just how good (or bad) a film is going to turn out, so I’m not even going to bother with in-depth reactions.
What I will say is that our initial hunch has proven to be correct. This is PTA’s take on “Vineland,” but in the most mainstream sense imaginable. The story is taken straight out of Pynchon’s novel, although the character’s names have been changed.
Sean Penn plays Col. Steven J. Lockjaw and he’s a “white supremacist” who somehow had affair with Regina Hall’s character. She ends up leaving him, taking up with with Leonardo Dicaprio’s character as Lockjaw tracks both of them down.
As far as the title goes, PTA’s latest is called “One Battle After Another.” Based on what I’m hearing, that’s a very apt description of the entire film which is filled with one big elaborate action set-piece after another. Despite the dark story, it’s described as a very “comedic” film, but one which hits the viewer hard with an unexpected emotional ending.
According to one source, the best way to describe “One Battle After Another” is as a “big action comedy,” and one can very much witness Jonathan Demme’s influence on this film, especially his great 1988 film “Something Wild,” which was a hybrid of action and incredibly dark humor.
Jonathan Demme Something Wild influence omg…
PTA is a demme mega stan so if he manages to capture that dark comedy tense style then
‘Very comedic film’ ☹️

F*** YES
excited to see it's a direct adaptation of Vineland. gonna be a fun flick
wish they'd change the title tho
I can see why WB would be willing to give this a big budget if that description is true. That sounds like a marketable film with Leo leading it

For sure. KOTF making 160 million makes me confident this should do pretty well.
That was an almost 4 hour drama, this sounds like it’ll be frenetic and actiony
