Go find out what they filming bro
just finished the book and I got no clue how the hell PTA is gonna make a film outta this lol
story is really all over the place in both settings and time. it's also hard to say who the main character is, which will make the casting decisions interesting. PTA is gonna have to take a lot of liberties with the storytelling
if people thought Inherent Vice was meandering just wait until Vineland
Pynchon just such a challenge to adapt, but I'm still hyped to see PTA give it a shot

If you’re able to, how would you describe the main plot of the book?

Kinda wild to hear this cause it’s been described as PTA’s most accessible movie ever
If you’re able to, how would you describe the main plot of the book?
hippies/revolutionaries from the 60s come to grips with their failed movement as the war on d\*\*\*\* and personal vendettas from dirty cops come back to pursue them in the 1980s

if it's supposed to be accessible then I could see him simplifying it, cutting out some storylines and making the plot more linear

Oh damnnn and here I was thinking it was about so disability check dude in search of his missing wife

it is, but in the book that's only like the first quarter of the story, then it switches around to different characters and time frames.
so if Leo's playing the disability check dude (named Zoyd, which it looks like he is) he's either not gonna have a huge part in the story or PTA is gonna focus on him more than the book did
cause really there's Zoyd, Frenesí, DL, Prairie, and Brock that are all primary characters of equal importance with a whole lotta secondary characters too
can't wait for more details bout the casting

I have the book but haven’t been motivated to give it a shot, worth reading?

I'd definitely recommend it but Pynchon is always pretty polarizing
if you haven't read him before, he has a lot of descriptive run on sentences, convoluted plots, and a quick pace that some people don't like. if you've read him before and liked his style I'm sure you'd like it
I liked Vineland a lot but it's challenging in its way, a book you want to pay close attention to as you read but also just enjoy it and be ok with not getting everything or at times feeling lost

Oh damn. I’m debating on wether I wanna read the book first or wait for the movie

Inherent Vice is one of my fav movies, I love the dialogue and read like half the book. Thought it was hilarious
Wanted to give Vineland a shot but I feel like what I liked about IV was more specific to that book than Pynchon in general

loved Inherent Vice too, the book and the movie. I think there's a lot of overlap between the books actually, almost like Vineland is a spiritual successor to IV in a way

You summed that up way better than I ever could

Apparently it’s set in 1984? I thought it was contemporary

Go be in they movie
any good?
pretty funny so far, waiting for the plot to get too convoluted for me to keep following

is it your first time reading pynchon? admittedly i haven’t checked any of his work out so idk what’s a good starting point into his bibliography besides Crying of Lot 49 (premise doesn’t interest me all that much tbh)

Only other book I've read is Crying of Lot 49 lol. I enjoyed it for the most part but his writing is very dense which makes it easy to zone out for me. Vineland so far seems more accessible
