Why did the trans friend just give her number up like that though?

I took it as a commentary on privilege, trans people have more to fear in a fascist police state, or just minority groups in general

They were gonna take them to jail and obviously would be the most vulnerable person in there... is pretty fkin obvious

Were they still being taken in or released from custody?

    Might be misremembering.

    arthouse blockbuster type beat

basically, yeah, that's a good way to put it lol

i cringed as i typed my initial comment, because it might be a pretentious way to view it

but idk, if you make a film too artsy or complex then the casual moviegoers won't fw it and if you cater to them then those that watch film as a hobby will look down on it

so to make a movie that appeals to both "sides" is no easy feat. at the same time, i can see OBAA eventually getting called "overrated" as word of mouth spreads and/if it does will in the Oscar's.

basically receiving the Everything Everywhere All at Once treatment where everyone loved it, it got popular, more people watched it and whether it was overhyped or got too mainstream or some people just like to be contrarians, the overall sentiment took a nosedive

Comparing the reception pipeline of a PTA film to everything everywhere is the most insane take on this thread so far

There's literally no reason for this to get that treatment when is actually a good movie, and one that improves with viewings

idk, man. as much as i love the film, i can see plenty of people calling it overrated and boring already, especially with so much hype behind it. one group in particular will find it "too political."

EEAO was what I thought of first, but it happened with Oppenheimer and even Parasite too
