I’m not even gonna put any energy trying to write a good dissection of FD, I’m over it
its crazy that so many people are gonna watch this video and not give the movie a chance lol its so f***ing good
wow, this was amazing. it did NOT feel like 2.5 hours long. it grips you from the jump and does not let go.
it feels like a perfect blend of a “blockbuster” that the average person can enjoy, but also something that film enthusiasts can enjoy for different reasons
arthouse blockbuster type beat

lol he got some valid points but he moved the f*** out of the goalpost for his junglepussy argument. went from 'wow what a racist name to give your black character' to 'ok even though thats her actual stagename and she wrote the monologue its still bad because the casuals dont have proper context' like huh????

It's like somebody saying a black character in a movie written or directed by a white person shouldn't be allowed to say the n word because it's actually being said by the writer/directer not the character (this is actually true for Quentin Tarantino)

What are the valid points?
Lost all respect for this man unfortunately, what a weird take
The comment section is completely braindead too
lost all respect over an opinion? i barely agree with him but i dont think what he's saying is anything losing respect over
People always gotta have some deep ass take on anything just for the sake of them wanting to be heard

What is he actually saying?

you’re right, it’s whatever I disagree with him but I’ll still watch him lol
at the end of the day it’s not like film criticism is his strength anyways
What is he actually saying?
i haven't watched the new video but i watched the initial livestream and the jist is that he's saying the movie fetishizes black women. other people have explained it in more detail itt
someone @ me when this leaks/hits streaming

Lockjaw having a black women fetish ≠ the movie fetishizing black women
Basic media literacy

some of his viewers realized this too

So this movie flopped but no one is talking about that?
Hmmmm.
Aw what’s wrong buddy

I don't like the type of critique FD employs where he is directly accusing PTA of having a racial fetish. Though I do think films can have their cake and eat it too with this kind of stuff. You can make a film criticizing the fetishizing of Black women, while still fetishizing Black women. Reminds me of Black exploitation films.
pure kino
no doubt the best film of his career and decade
i can see why ppl will attach to there will be blood and magnolia more but the portraits painted here are so much more important
he stretches the medium / genre and takes it to new heights. he gives purpose to the hollywood blockbuster in a time where art feels so futile
in a time where our humanity is being tested and drained from us by big tech, it has ever been more important to have a deeply humanist piece of art hit the mainstream like this one.
deeply empathetic and hopeful. at times even whimsical
there’s gonna be black people who critique this movie just off the strength it’s a white guy doing a big budget blaxpoitation film for the first half hour
if you don’t see the value in that kinda cinematic history and/or find problems with it’s history of white directors making “black” stories of resistance and resilience, i don’t think you’ll ever see eye to eye with the film
and that’s okay, i don’t blame anyone for rejecting it even after seeing it.
but i truly believe anderson show’s a lot of love and nuance to teyana’s character. she’s never just a caricature, but i don’t blame ppl for reading it that way
at the end of the day some of those visuals will never sit right with people, but i think anderson was very tasteful. it never felt “too much” both taylor and penn really toe that line between caricature and reality so well, i give them props for it
Is it fair to call this an instant classic? Feels like it imo
i need to watch magnolia before in all it, but it’s by far his best. it just stays true to his sensibilities without grasping too far at political commentary that’s “above” him or the medium itself.
if it was made any earlier or later, idk but it’s come at such a critical moment i don’t think american cinema has been more alive since maybe…. i dont know
Willa driving and the camera on the door closing into a tight shot as the car door shuts is film p***
bauman is brilliant, he never over does it. every shot is so f***ing tasteful.
you never get a shot for too long. the camera never feels like it’s flaunting. it’s pure movie magic, kinetic energy that doesn’t stop. it starts with a mother running from and ends with daughter running to
