One of the best parts of the film is that little montage with the voice monologuing about what Perfidia needs to do for witness protection and she just looks so sad and defeated trying to integrate and be a person. Reminded me a lot of a scene from The Master where a guy is talking to post-war sailors in the same sort of way.
First thirty minutes of the movie is really where it's at.
I've seen this in theaters at least 6 times and I still want to see it more
7 times
damn you hit the nail w that description. I could see someone like Hitchcock doing that scene as well
I thought Hitchcock with the almost dizzying effect of the road going up and down

Sean Penn best actor
I did think of this, that they had the most to lose, were the most vulnerable. Though I also have heard its not that bad for gay people in prison currently, that it is much more accepted. Not a huge critique of the film.
either one of her friends could have been the snitch and ppl would still have something to complain about “ofc the white girl is cooperating w the police../how come only her non white friend snitched???”

Sure somebody. It makes sense to me that there would be a certain amount of queer-black solidarity. And that white cis people who have the least negative interactions with authority would be the least savvy in these situations/not stand ten toes down.

I think it’s gonna break the current record for most acting noms for one film (5)
Leo, Teyana, Benicio, Sean, Chase, and Regina
Yeah that opening was a pretty rough start but it really picked up after the time jump

I agree 16 years later onward is my favorite. Saw some else here say the first part was their favorite, I don't see it.

I appreciate the opening for it serving as a prelude to the real story. But outside of Junglepussy, I found a lot of it to be pretty stiff and awkward performance wise.

its gonna have an unshakeable flop label from box office dorks on account of its budget but its clearly having a moment rn. it isn't an outright audience rejection like him, smashing machine, mickey17 etc.
and thats what people usually mean when they think of flops. this isn't that
