never seen a PTA film, but the hype around this got me intrigued
anything I should know before going in?
Absolutely incredible film
How was yall's audience? Like, I get that DiCaprio’s role leaned into comedy at times, but after a certain point it felt like people were laughing at every single thing he did
I didn't know this was a comedy. Same situation with Anora. Didn't laugh.
I will say though, Leo sniping at Lockjaw as he was leaving with Willa, only for the immediate scene after to be lockjaw driving on as if nothing happened gave me a light chuckle.
Didn't feel the runtime after an hour till the end.
They got Avon Barksdale wrapped up in some snowbunny activities
Oppenheimer is nice but this s*** clears it quite easily for me
The writing in Oppenheimer is significantly stronger.
he's hating on the fact that junglepussy is the name of one of the characters
Think his main issue was the Jezebel trope and he's not even saying that his take is exactly what the film is saying with Teyana's character (I know you talking about the other character but I just addressed the other stuff beyond junglepussy. It's clear he doesn't know who that is tho lol). You don't have to agree with him, but he lays out his case. It's not "hate."
was on holiday for a couple days. IMAX tonight, finally
hope it holds up to how hype I am

I tapped out like 10 minutes into the stream ngl
One thing I found interesting is that this movie seemingly for how politically conscious it is, absolutely stops short of promoting political violence
At least in my mind it does. It endorses protecting yourself, but stops short of political violence without a true end goal certainly
Not necessarily surprised by that. Just find it interesting that post Teyanna killing someone the revolution, to us the viewer, more or less fizzled out
Saw this on Friday, been thinking about it whole weekend.
Really wanna watch it again.
Feels like a very special movie

I get the vibe that for the french75, it became more about the spectacle of cops vs robbers kinda s\*\*\* after/right before that. Big shows with explosions and calling cards in the calls boasting to law enforcement. Made sense why they got stamped out so hard and fast after that too. On top of the snitching. Especially compared to the benicio side of revolution; way more ubiquitous and thorough, doing it for the community not to make headlines. Definitely agree that how the French75 get treated shows the film's view on political violence without an end goal
The action movie head in me wanted to see anyone actually like, defend themselves and not be on the run/back foot the whole time, but in turn, just ended up being an entire movie of twisted nerves so I can't complain. Tense as f***. No big action scene catharsis, just constant paranoid arms race
In a weird way I think PTA would murder a GTA movie
Like obv he would, he'd kill anything you throw at him, but this had some of it in its DNA imo
So for lockjaw was he a military man stationed with the police to continue his hunt, or are the police literally the military in this world?
Not me seeing friends / friends of friends on LB logging HIM and all giving it under 3 stars wanting to comment on every single one and be like why didn’t you go to OBAA
