i just realized Joe Hisaishi wasn't nominated, and that's actually insane

    Best Original Song
“The Fire Inside” from Flamin’ Hot (Music and Lyric by Diane Warren)
“I’m Just Ken” from Barbie (Music and Lyric by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt)
“It Never Went Away” from American Symphony (Music and Lyric by Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson)
“Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” from Killers of the Flower Moon (Music and Lyric by Scott George)
“What Was I Made For?” from Barbie (Music and Lyric by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell)

    Best Original Score
    American Fiction (Laura Karpman)
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (John Williams)
Killers of the Flower Moon (Robbie Robertson)
    Oppenheimer (Ludwig Göransson)
    Poor Things (Jerskin Fendrix)

    A whole joke

i'd be cool with either one taking it, haven't seen Creator but it does look more beautiful

low budget movies that can pull off effects always deserve the love in that category, Ex Machina won before so it's def possible

Cool with either for sure but doing so with a cheaper budget is the greater accomplishment. That is my opinion. Both solid wins for sure. Godzilla definitely deserves something for that visual style its engrossing practical that doesn't just feel shiny

nothing for iron claw kinda sucks but this has been a stacked year so cant really complain

kinda surprised the zone of interest was nominated over it tbh, not because it wasn’t good, but because a24 f***ed up the distribution of that movie (and really both movies) bad

    What I have been saying.....

    People saying the silliest "snubs"

    rather than the criminal ones

You're right, criminal is the right word.

And he just won a Golden Globe, which makes the snub even more baffling.

Man is a genius and deserves to at least be recognized as such.

Zone has more prestige to it + Glazer returning gave it more buzz

Oscars uphold white supremacy in so many ways sprinkles nominations to non white people and only gives them a win if they want a speech

    Imma be honest.

    how'd they f*** up Iron Claw's distribution?

  • Should ATSV deserve an Original Score nom?

Also Robbie not getting a nom is insane

    Imma be honest.

"According to a February 2012 study conducted by the Los Angeles Times (sampling over 5,000 of its 5,765 members), the Academy at that time was 94% white, 77% male, 86% age 50 or older, and had a median age of 62"

"The A2020 initiative was announced in January 2016 to double the number of women and people of color in membership by 2020."

Those initial figures are alarming. And I question if things have actually changed in any meaningful way.

i think it would've had a much bigger chance if it didn't open so late. barely had time for any sort of campaign. can't do that in a year this stacked

  • Jan 23, 2024

i dont put much stock in the oscars anymore but this year seems worse than usual

They clearly haven't . Also I think diversity in general isnt just about race gender but also a variety of backgrounds and wealth classes. Why should these awards be decided by primarily rich white men? What makes them the arbiters of art at all?

Yes and there will be a viral moment this year. They are desperate for ratings. None of this is about accolades or celebrating art.
