You can’t please everyone with any comedian. But conceptually I think if u want to remove a comedians role in the show, u are off base as to what makes an award show memorable and enjoyable
What makes an award show memorable and enjoyable to me is seeing people who have dedicated their lives to their craft get to have their moment on stage. Many of them will probably never be up there again. It absolutely makes my viewing experience worse when I have to watch those people's speeches be played over or have their mics cut in favor of another 5 minute Conan sketch.

conceptually I think the Oscars is way too serious and snooty for its own good and having a comedian as host is a smart move by the producers/academy/industry in order to balance out the self-importance with a little bit of self-deprecation

MattMNah, but the Oscars never really are 100% about the performance itself. IMO, Ethan or Leo were the truly deserving winners, if we're talking purely acting, but I feel like MBJ might not get another chance at one, so I'm glad he got it for what really is a strong performance in a movie that will surely be remembered in pop-culture memory.
No award show is 100% about the art.. which is why I find it silly to even argue or get mad about frivolous s*** like this.
