But also this awards cycle was probs the most tedious / draining, I think the combination of faux-cinephiles and snarky keyboard warriors online made public discourse around unbearable. Like that’s the main climate of film discourse online rn. It’s so homogenous too with everyone talking about the same 5 (domestic, not even foreign) things on film in a carousel, boring.

Demon slayer had better box office than all them movies combined . I’m saying eventually they have to acknowledge anime to a better degree

Not trying to defend its omission, but I do think if an anime pulls those numbers without academy voters having to have had watched a TV show attached to the movie, I’d like to think it gets in

Personally I think they could cut back on some of the skits and give more time to the up and comers and first timers. Imagine you're part of a small team who won and worked for years on a short film, only to have your memory of that moment ruined by the cut off music. For a lot of them this is the only Oscar they'll get.

Might be a hot take...but I think the in-memoriam segment could be trimmed too. Of course, there's legends to be honored, but the segment itself and the speech by Barbara Streisand slowed down the show by a lot (and had terrible audio).

In memoriam was long as f*** and even then missed many people . If you are going to miss that many people and only truly highlight some that’s damn near worse than just saying “ in memoriam linked online “ or pre show do it

Nah, but the Oscars never really are 100% about the performance itself. IMO, Ethan or Leo were the truly deserving winners, if we're talking purely acting, but I feel like MBJ might not get another chance at one, so I'm glad he got it for what really is a strong performance in a movie that will surely be remembered in pop-culture memory.

See that’s the hard part I had understanding.

I feel like im only happy for MBJ because he’s black and he a cool kid.

But if I remove all biases, I don’t understand the whole “he might not get another chance”…..I know sports is more objective but in a championship the BEST team/player gets rewarded the trophy. I wish the Oscars was a little more geared around who was the best rather than other factors.

And this is more than just MBJ, Oscars have dropped the ball numerous of times for best picture. In no world was crash and green book the best picture

Monoculture is a major problem among all artist mediums right now imo. Everyone wants to join in on the conversation. People force themselves to have strong opinions both for and against things so they can participate in “dialogue”, which has devolved into meme formats and no dialogue at all.

The OBAA vs Sinners as a sports fandom has been f***ing dumb.

Chainsaw man in the top ratings of letterboxd movies for the year . I get it’s a tough situation because it has show content too but there deserves to be an award for what goes into creating those panels . Even if people think the material or writing itself is trash

    Mappa deserves an Oscar

Same way boy and the heron deserved another Oscar

Didn't feel like I had a horse in any of the races this year. Didn't care who won as long as Frankenstein and Hamnet lost.

OBAA wasn't even my top 3 of the year FYI @WRU

I blame Stan Twitter and Letterboxd culture for the uncultured and yes even sports culture / team sports mentality when looking at things that (not to be overly romantic ) should be sat with for a lifetime
