Are we finally healing? Love OP because I know he ride for his coast but appreciate calling a spade a spade. There’s room for all these guys pause
idk if some of you remember being on ktt1 at the time but there was a period before Cole dropped his debut album where the hype was really high and there was this one blogger who made a description of the songs from what he heard at the listening party. He teased a song with Hov and Cole called Mr Nice Watch which supposedly "had the craziest beat ever" and the hype for the song became so high....
Imagine our faces when this s*** dropped
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs5G9u4kaOMI still think this is the most disappointing album of all time
overhated album simply because of comments like this lmao. album only has like 2 weak songs and this is one of them

Dam I typed a LONG reply to @blacksmoke but I think he deleted his post lol
I asked what year take care became a classic since it’s not an instant classic. I ain’t want to upset some people even tho it’s a question that’s never been asked

This my first time hearing that song and the rapping isn’t bad. People was hating on that?

They were hating on the beat and then the album isn’t relatable for internet rap fans. I think the album is great, a lot of depth in that project. A sound I only ever heard from him or Wale. I mean ask anyone to play the song Sideline Story right now and I bet it’ll be one of their favorite Cole songs

Somewhere between 2018 and 2022
For sure it was well after Views. I remember listening to the Budden Podcast in 2016 and Joe ranting about how Drake had no classics. I remember that wasn’t considered a hot take at the time
Hard to pin exactly why things changed. Drakes public perception and fanbase starts changing around when Scorpion drops. Kendrick disappears. Cole drops music and its ass. There isn’t really a new blog era that mints new superstars. Drake lowkey carries the genre and enjoys unquestioned unrivaled dominance. Younger generations come along who think that like all of hip hop is Drake lol. Absolutely all music consumption fully goes over to streaming. Streaming changes how people consume music. Complaints about albums being too long or having too many skips kind of stops happening because everyone puts everything in playlists. Before then people would argue about take care and say things like “if you took the best 11 songs on it and cut the rest you might have a classic” (I remember making fake classic tracklists on ktt1 lmfao)
It’s a lot. But that’s the time frame where I remember the discourse shifting from “TC, NWTS & IYRTITL are great great albums” to them being considered classics. Up until the Kendrick beef people in general hated on and made fun of Drake MUCH less than they used to. The haters re-emerged post-beef lol. The main thing is the overall discourse about what’s considered a classic changed. You see it in replies to my posts itt.
No skips on Born Sinner either
the concept of Cole having 3 classics
Ain’t no way someone with an avy like that quoted me
Do you knoo that > is greater than ? I thnk u might have it reversed heh
21 people failed this rap iq test
the concept of Cole having 3 classics
FNL, 2014FHD and you can argue for Born Sinner or The Offseason depending on which Cole fan you got and which hiphop fan you talking to. Born Sinner is amazing, so is Offseason
this guy said offseason is a classic
No skips on Born Sinner either
intreresting point
would be a shame if I said "Corn Dinner" however

Bro
We need to draw a line in the sand
Things can only be considered classics if they perfectly encapsulate a moment in time and/or permanently change the genre going forward
You can make a case that Cole has not done either once. The offseason definitely is not that even though I think its a really dope album
Some of y'all can't just call something good or great and immediately jump to classic
There's only like 50 classics in all of hip hop history

So take care became a classic many years later because the standards were lowered in the late 2010s and early 2020s?
