We have derailments in Canada all the f***ing time. I have buddy that runs excavator for emergency derailments and he said hardly any of them even make the news and they're all bad.
That’s f***ed tho, I didn’t know that
Dam. Was under the impression the last really big one that made the news was like pretty big, but it was pretty different.
The one out in Quebec, lac megantic ?
Like I said though, def different
When they happen somewhere public or there are deaths involved you can't really cover it up I guess but when they're in the middle of nowhere dumping toxic s*** into rivers
You do realize this happened 10 days ago?
I literally looked at the recent news stories from the past week from both of them before I even made my first post itt.
“This story is getting adequate mainstream news coverage” is such a pointless and incorrect hill to die on. Just why

I’m just saying as someone who lives very close to this event, it has been discussed and covered non-stop. It was on national news last week when it happened, all over social media now.
It’s clear corporate interests are downplaying the severity, but it is not being covered up.
I see at least 10 articles on CNN from last Friday when it happened.
anyone know where this image came from?
not saying to believe everything corporate media tellS you but this may be A TINY BIT comforting to see for those concerned about water

Pretty sure that represents where those counties get their water. It’s basically stating that as of NOW the water isn’t contaminated after conducting some research. Who’s to say that they hurried and ran some tests to say the water isn’t contaminated before it actually is.
Also heard that due to the volatility of vinyl chloride, it most likely will evaporate before running into the river and it also doesn’t seem to absorb into soil which is good
Care to elaborate for those not in the know? Much appreciated in advance.
vinyl chloride is used to make pvc
when the train got derailed this vinyl chloride leaked, it is highly volatile and lasts less than a day when its a gas
the issue is that there was so much of it that they had to burn it before it exploded
burning it resulted in HCl gas and phosgene gas, both of which are DEADLY at low concentrations
it only takes an hour of exposure at ~0.1ppm to give u permanent lung problems from phosgene gas
this is not including the fact that all the chemicals released are carcinogens and the VC gas that was not burned is very stable in water (so it can dissolve and stay in the water systems indefinitely)
its a huge mess that will contaminate the area for decades
i hope this is clear lmao
If you don't live here, no one "cares"
This is has been on local news non-stop since it happened.
I live less than 40 miles from here.
Hope you make it bro
Look at this take

same ppl that want to bring back coal and defund the EPA
What’s wrong with coal ?

i mean canada prioritizes profit over human life as well
This is insane though i’m in environmental sciences and my profs can’t stop talking about it

That was my point, it's not just America

wow.
this is awful
Do you think the Govt will start evacuating people?
wow.

Do you think the Govt will start evacuating people?
they already did then told everyone it’s safe to go back
wow.

Do you think the Govt will start evacuating people?
they definitely should or else we will see cancer cases spike up in a few years
whats even better is if they start adding filtration systems to the nearby lakes that supply freshwater
even if they managed to burn 90% of the VC, the remaining 10% could do some serious damage if it gets into that freshwater supply
Bruh... Why nobody is talking about this on the big media?
They are calling it Chernobyl 2.0
@op another one
