I don’t get this, it’s not comparable. I’ll always have the digital file, if you sell your game you don’t have it anymore, and you have to buy it again later if you feel like replaying, I always regret selling my physical games so I’m living a much happier life this gen just buying mostly digital. For games that look kinda s*** I guess physical has an advantage but I just prefer to skip and maybe get it digital when it’s $5 or on ps plus

In terms of profits, that’s actually better for indies, they pay a lot for production and distribution of physical copies, many cant even afford to until the digital copy is out and selling anyways, then they have to use the money from digital sales and spend a bunch for physicals where they get a worse return because of cost of production, retail takes a cut, etc

What if I don’t want the game? There’s zero resale value on digital. It’s not about always having the digital file.

Ahh yes you will always have the digital file. They have never taken down a game or access to a game ever. Digital only and DRM was why xbox one failed FOR GOOD REASON. For Steam and PC where games are cheaper and its not console it makes sense. Part of the point of console for many is to have the physical. To be able to play offline. To own the content. Everything you are arguing for it would make infinitely more sense for you to own a PC rather than buy a 600-800$ console and pay for console online yearly.

They arent doing this for indies and you know this. You also know indies physicals arent the main ones selling but I am just going to let you do what you do. Indies can go on PC easily and less certification process than consoles lol. Squirrel with a gun can do gangbusters and get a better cut from steam or their own website than PSN or Xbox Live.
