everyone is in an arms race for every last drop of performance
all these new GPUs & CPUs are basically pre overclocked
I wouldn't feel comfy running these expensive parts at 90C+ that can't be good for the parts long term.. like sure it works but something is going to break after a couple years
it's crazy how good the 5800x3D is, still trading blows with these new CPUs.. definitely the way to go
It’s largely because they want to appeal to enterprise/professionals and deep pocket enthusiasts, most likely less than 2% of the market, but they are the most likely to spend the most and upgrade every year
but the average pc builder gets priced out and then you have to dig for deals on ebay/newegg/amazon, etc, usually being 1-3 gens behind
i wonder how far improvements can really go, because the returns are diminishing

yeah definitely not many people buy the top end cause it's a pretty bad value, not worth the price
but I feel like less informed gamers will buy the slower/older version of something really expensive just cause they have the crown in performance/bragging rights
for years people would only buy Nvidia/Intel cause they had the fastest product on the market even though they were buying the budget part
the halo product really draws people in cause they think having the best must mean their i5 & 2060 are also better than the AMD version
now that AMD is threatening Nvidia & Intel spot they respond by adding 3x power draw on the top product and AMD is starting to do the same some, the new Ryzen 7000 series could use like half power without that big of a decrease
Cheers fam 🙏
Isn't 300 on a motherboard a bit much though?
Not these days famo... But yeah this is what $2000 gets you until the Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas sales in 2022 do start
@neon Welp... A 1400 Watts PSU at least? Man... I hope this is still possible in EU in 2023

when you edit a post later and add an @ the person doesn't get a notification btw
he def could go with a cheaper motherboard
yeah you'll probably just have to buy an expensive one with good efficient but idk for sure, it's insane I wouldn't want to run that just cause of the cost power and cooling lol

Really? Smh will have to make a new post then every time I do it... Thanks for letting me know
Possibly... But how much cheaper though? I don't think under $250 tbh
Yeah dunno about that tbh. We'll see if that's still in the case in 2023 though... Or if it'll be worse

$100 motherboard should be great, also 32GB of RAM is currently overkill you only 16GB for 99% of Games, more RAM is useful for content creators so it depends what you plan to use the machine for
only reason I'd buy an expensive motherboard like that is if you're trying target above 200hz at 1080p but then you also need a Watercooling system to take advantage of the extra CPU performance or if you're trying to make some kind of Server/Creation PC not a Gaming PC
for 1440p/4k gaming makes more sense to save money and put it towards a better GPU, basically just wasting the money getting a nice motherboard.. you'd get much better performance with a better GPU
lol I mean I'm sure the 4090ti will be even worse with Power Draw
makeuseof.com/reasons-why-you-dont-need-expensive-motherboard
like if you have a $4k budget it makes more sense to get the nicest parts but $2k you're better off most times just getting the best GPU possible for a 1440/4k gaming setup
a build with a 3080ti/3090 will smoke a 3070ti and that nice motherboard
Finally picked up a rack
what servers u gonna put in?
you could do a lot with self hosting

i didnt even know companies were doing this
getting laptop GPUs and stuffing them into desktop cards
i cant blame them though, its an interesting idea
i assume the chinese manufacturers will buy these GPU dyes for cheap in bulk and stick them on desktop PCBs and sell for a profit
they’re apparently quite popular in places like brazil
What’s the best video card for 1440p 144hz
rtx 3080 or rx 6800xt
you could go more expensive like a 3090/4090 if you want 144hz+ in demanding games like cyberpunk or a ubisoft game but those 2 cards will get you near 144hz in most games at high settings, not all though
i have a 1440p 240hz screen and personally if the game is over 100hz it's buttery smooth for me the extra hz are nice in games that are less demanding and can get to 144+ on my rtx 3080

yeah these have been around for a while they are weird af.. Chinese companies have so many weird parts you can order off AliExpress
I have found motherboards you can buy that have PCIe slots for a GPU but have laptop CPUs attached that are unremovable
yeah I think it's just cheap stuff they have left over from laptops that were overproduced cause the prices for this stuff usually is good when they come out

i kinda want to check out the SSDs on there bc ive heard some are clones of name brands in terms of hardware

I feel like that's risky but it could be a good deal yeah lots companies will use the same NAND & controllers as more expensive brands for less the trouble is a lot of times they'll switch parts out without telling you to some cheap bs
there are some good cheaper brands on Amazon also you just gotta check
what’s the best way to clean dust in my pc
i got the can air but it really doesn’t do a good job

Eh. TBD. That server is the bulk of my equipment rn. I'm contemplating on moving my personal pc into a 2U to get it out of the room
what’s the best way to clean dust in my pc

amazon.com/Metro-DataVac-500-Watt-0-75-HP-Electric/dp/B001J4ZOAW
i use this
if the dust is too caked tho, i take the computer apart every couple years and use 99.9% alcohol
you can even soak the parts in it just make sure you let them dry out well, 99.9% will dry fast
soaking is a bit extreme tho.. normally i just get a paper towel wet with alcohol and clean it that way unless it's some old part that was neglected

yeah pretty expensive, it's honestly not that much better than the canned dusters I just have so many different computers/servers I dust so it ends up being cheaper/less wasteful in the long term might not make sense for you tho
if the dust is really stuck you'll have to do alcohol tho like I was saying, with a tissue, paper towel or q-tip
also if you do decide to bathe any of the parts just make sure you're removing the cmos battery lol

Nothing wrong with future proofing a PC tbh... But yeah it depends on what the person getting the PC is looking for so I would say what I put together for him looks good to me though
But it's his choice in the end though

There's the Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas and January 2023 sales... If he waits so can he build a better PC for $2000 or even for less if he doesn't want to change anything from the build I shared with him. Or yes he could also do what you're doing... It's like I said his choice depending on what he wants to use it for

yeah true i bet last gen CPUs and motherboards will have some crazy good deals
same with monitors
doubt the new stuff is discounted too much but we will see
