love how big the towns are in eastward. New Dam City is so massive there’s different songs for uptown and midtown

Also really hyped to see Ester City, from what Daniel said I’m imaging a utopian sci-fi city

The game does a good job of making you anticipate the next area, you always wanna keep progressing

How’s the game? Does it scratch the earthbound itch?

I f***ing love it, it’s like a classic Zelda game in a more gritty and realistic world but with some light sci-fi fantasy elements to the plot

never played earthbound but someone who did wrote this:

“ it is heavily inspired by Earthbound, stylistically, and story-wise. It also contains many easter-eggs referencing Earthbound. It's really the main reason I was looking forward to Eastward (Earthbound is my favorite game of all time). But, for all intents and purposes, it is an Action RPG.”

Fez was challenging in a rewarding way. Celeste was just Super Meat Boy with a story and challenging for no reason at all.

Although Celeste isn’t a bad game by any means, it’s just not very original and how hard it is isn’t rewarding.

i dont think the endgame in fez was done that well but it was super innovative and cozy IMO

almost the perfect indie game and stuck with me for a long time

tight the combat is one of earthbouds weak points so i might check this out

EASTWARD

Its great and it’s heavy on story, lots of text based conversations like the old school JRPGs chrono trigger, final fantasy, earthbound etc

If you aren’t into that style of storytelling in games though, I could see people not enjoying it. It’s obviously the polar opposite of what’s popular now, which is voice acted storytelling with cinematic cutscenes

personally I crave retro games like this
