lotta cool tips regarding filtering and the creative process
Any tips on tape effects?
Im trying to figure out how to just make the lo fi on guitars, synths, pianos, without having any of the dry instrument signal there.
Could be wording that funny. Should I just output the instruments to the bus?

Im using a lot of these sample pack videos for lo fi references. Maybe I'm overthinking it

Don't use softsynths if you're aiming for lo fi stuff
Sample real instruments. Stock logic instruments in ex24 are great, and the stock instruments in alchemy. Lots of the sounds are sample based.
Bitcrush, subtle white noise, subtle delay, reverb

By soft synths u mean plugins?

No - I mean stuff like serum that's based on wavetables rather than real instruments.
There are softsynths that contain samples of real instruments
that being said, don't overthink it. Sample something you like, chop it up, rearrange it, move it up and down an octave, stretch it, etc.

So I can use Arturia? 😱
The melody and pad sound real cute like a video game music
I think it needs to sound fuller and take more place in the mix, I mostly hear the kick and 808 whichsound clean, it's just that I'd want more of the synths
thanks lowkey the sound i be goin for
and i feel you about the mix, trying to figure out the right balance

Hats -> Hat Bus
Hat bus -> drum bus

Drums bus -> drum reverb send
Drumslam/overdrive are both at a super low mix doing saturation here, PhatFX is just acting as a filter (turn off the limiter if you do this on your drum bus), neutron is doing some transient shaping, compressor is slightly compressing and has a makeup of +5db so that it'd clip
before the makeup gain I was hitting -6db. Clipmax is after the compressor just clipping to remove the peaks.
The "vintage vca" compressor in logic has really nice saturation. It's based on the SSL Bus Compressor, if you ever see people using "the glue", that is based on the same thing
Wouldn't recommend copying my drum bus atm because I need to rework it in this context, I think I need to choose different kick/snare samples for the track I'm working on.
This too much s***
Like new drum patterns ? I just place that s*** or take patterns from songs and switch it up
my secret is taking drums from really old Memphis / southern tapes

ur right but it helps my add self organized
thats why i have a template that already has my routing set up with all the reverbs I like

I don’t believe in templates
I don’t believe in templates
as iglooghost once said, "I know motherfuckers who have a saved preset rack of all their favorite sounds… like cool!!! Everything will sound like a remix of the same song. That’s some s*** I’m really trying to avoid right now."
My FL 64 bit won’t load anymore but 32 works fine
hope this don’t cause no problems in the future

i've probably saved hours of my life by utilizing templates I made for myself
like "yeah this reese sounds cool lemme save this channel strip"
that way I don't have to think about which plugins I want

switch to ableton, u fool
Why? I don’t know how to use that s***
because ableton is dope and it will unlock some hidden s***

I barely produce though I mostly just rap so idk if it’s worth relearning a new program for tbh.
