idk if u liked joyride off kevin abstract's album, but if u did, it lowkey has hella andre/outkast influence imo
im not sure
even with all this free time, im not making a lot of music.
usually with school and work, i would look forward to going home just so i can start workin on music
but now im like
mayb ill make something today
ima use this time to get better at playing instruments tho to up my production skills
I've just been flipping samples real quick, then bouncing out the flipped samples.
Been layering up drums and bouncing them too. Got some sweet drum and perc loops already.
Got a folder full of stuff that I know will work together
just gotta get the time after I finish my tests. Kinda making my own sample pack
Even if you're not feeling music, just force yourself to open the daw and bang out a couple nice drum loops or resample song songs. Throw them in a folder. Then you'll think about the sounds and where to go with them in your free time.
Record out some Spotify and find samples to flip
Brian Eno discog is sample flipping on easy mode
chop out some bits of a song, reverse a few, filter it, etc into a 4 bar loop and you won't even be able to recognize the source
Everything has been going really good so far
everything falling into place and I believe my time is coming soon. Also mentally as well which if not for that then nothing else would come.
i've gotten some pretty good placements with some big artists and some somewhat big/rising artists but i haven't had like any MAJOR breaks yet.
i have a lot of ties to memphis and chattanooga which are kind of creative hubs down here which helps. a lot of it stemmed from doing other work like posters, flyers, cover art, etc. so if ur talented at any of that i think its more important than the beats themselves sometimes just bc people need designers more than they need beats. and it can help lead into the beat conversations lmao.
I do artwork but i never thought of pushing that first
thanks for the tip
It took me a while to be confident in my s***. Music is comparable to lacrosse to me. Everyone is s***ty at it when they start. You just gotta keep grinding

How to stop being lazy?
Edit: for those who have overcome being unproductive/laziness, how did you do it?
