Headroom/mixing problems are often arrangement problems in disguise. Like if you have two instruments clashing in a bandwidth then you might only need one of them. That took me wayy too long to realise when i started
That makes sense
I do layer a lot of s***
A lot of my stuff ends up maximalist though
like jane remover
It is genre dependent i guess. But for me im usually looking at what can be changed about the instruments before im equalising. I like to keep my projects lean and adaptable and the more eqs i use the harder it is to make changes later on

I yearn to make beats with minimal layers but I always end up with like 100+ tracks
I get what you’re saying tho will keep that in mind
whose dumbass idea was it to tune every hardstyle bass kick to f***in F
Any lower than that and most speakers wont be able to reproduce the fundamental
I have one of these that I'm tryna get rid of (not the MK-II)
Would def give you a good price if interested
Lemme hit u up once I get paid again bro

Used to be me till I got a critique from industry folk back in the days. 10 tracks max. N prefer to leave hella space in the mix now. Really makes it more manageable, but also takes way longer to create, ironically.

my kpop industry friend/artist has only said her engineers say i gotta start mixing my s*** better
thank god kpop ppl are in the overproduce camp
i dont think they mind receiving 100+ tracks.
i just have this maximalist approach, some examples.

voca.ro/1colkUVlnipE (sped up version so can listen to it quicker lol)
i like having different parts in my songs too
i still cant believe my dad accidentally threw away the box for my afx station synth smh that box was cool !

This is nice af, and imo it's mixed pretty well
Imo no artist should take mixing advice seriously unless the person really understands your specific vision. especially if it's the only thing ppl say about a track. Imo it's low-key hating.
songs need that dirt and grit. But fellow engineers and nerds want that sterile AI sound cause of technical s***. which is cool, but not all artist need that. It's highly dependent on not only the genre but sub genre and overall niche you are going for as well.
Imagine telling Daniel Johnston or madlib they needs to clean the mix up or else you'll have no listeners. It's laughable.
Mixing is so fun when that sterility is out the question. Sure it'll be more palatable for more casual audiences, but what even is a casual audience anymore in 2026.
For me, most of the mixing is in the arrangement and sound selection. High quality samples, good quality performances, that's like 70 percent of the engineering process for me. Then it takes me like a couple hours to mix with minimal plug ins, prob due to my old tech. My s*** would explode if I ever tried to make what you made lmfao. Great work.

you dropping truth nukes left n right god damn
thank u
I think most of the time I feel like my mixes aren't great because I skip over eqing, bussing, compressing, etc.. i try to work off instinct and fast so i usually forget to sculp things "properly" . i do thing i'm p good at sound selection though. and 99% of the time my s*** is clipping
I'm getting better at these things though. for the last 5 years~~ i haven't really "finished" any of my demos/songs and so I never saw a point in mixing and mastering them. but now they're finally becoming songs and im like overwhelmed cause i want it to sound "good" on most systems.
appreciate the compliment on my work
they are my babies

You def have sound selection on point if these sounds aren't processed
The translation most of the time comes from the mastering process which, since your sound selection is good, you good there too. It has that crunchy jane remover sound that you should keep.
Also likewise. I was insecure about my bare bones set up so I always made beats but hopped on others cause my CPU is cooked and my ram is like 5gb lmfao. But now idc. I'm fully embracing that jai Paul leak sound. Overthinking really is the killer of creativity.
I'm glad u finally putting stuff out there. I'll be there for any official release
Depends on your sound
You have any recommendations? Just need like 4-5 solid ass kits that I can depend on, like I did on the BWB kits for so long…modern s*** though.. everything from Drake to James Blake to charli ..
I don’t buy drumkits
I just use stuff from r/drumkits or stuff I’ve pirated through discords / torrents / random links
But yeah really depends what you’re tryna produce I guess
I fw Reddit too but s*** feels kinda ghetto downloading from a random media fire link, lmao… the kits do be fire as hell though..people are doing crazy ass work to get these drums and they’re just handing em out on Reddit, s*** crazy.
