beflygeltyo so this was a good read, but honestly it's kinda sloppy academia.
Like honestly I'm not convinced woods was referencing Hegel with that one line. He didn't even say "dialectic", just "dialect" which is a completely different thing obvs. I think he really missed the mark with that one, if there wasn't another strong hint in that verse he was talking about Hegel. "The dialect of slaves ever indirect" seems to me more in line with this

I'm doing comparative lit and highkey I'd love to write some papers comparing lit with rap, but rly doing that any justice is a daunting task tbh
I wouldnt review hip-hop in the same line as ppl view classical literature which had been created under different circumstances and with an entirely different motivation/frame of reference. think we wont see the more established and independent critical field for hip-hop anytime soon anyhow.
ill give some stretching to the author as there are times when its really hard to make your point so you gotta stretch things here and there. after all its lit paper, ill accept different interpretations of a non-canon work of art, even if it might contradict the more reasonable one for the sake of cohesion
