I'm just missing how the "saying nice things" translates to real world encouragement

Like if I was doing something and someone said a nice thing about it that would not effect my outlook on it really so I can't relate to like valuing that and purposely doing it for other people

I would only do that if I was like purposely trying to come across a certain way

I can't relate to it making sense for you because I look at it differently. For me if I was deciding to behave like that it wouldn't be for the reasons you are choosing to do it because it doesn't have the same value to me

in that case its just because its an experience I had that changed my outlook, so my perspective on it is different. which i guess i the situation for most things

Like for me I can see the value of doing nice things

Like if someone was to like give a helpful piece of advice, or give someone something they needed to achieve something, or helped them network to achieve their goal

That would make more sense to me as genuine kindness so that's how I would be kind

Just saying nice things as a genuine attempt to be nice doesn't make sense for me, but people are like nice in different ways I guess and value different things

its not so much about attempting to be nice, but my conspiratorial brain looks at the way society generally admonishes self directed learning. It’s bothers me, so I like letting people know I personally think they're on the right track, to combat that perspective.

a bit of a tangent but I look at self directed learning in this diy punk perspective, its a healthy rebellion

That's probably fine but Im instinctively cynical when it comes to things like that

it genuinely takes a bit of courage to wake up one day and be like, im teaching myself something new today, for me.

I dont think thats an unrealistic perspective, it feels futile a lot of the time and I have gone through long phases of being jaded about it.

I think to put too much value on stuff like that opens you up to nastier possibilities as well
