its a young as in early 20s to early 30s compared to late 30s. not like 13 year olds

also you just might not like it regardless

  • Bruuiisees

King of the hill had an episode about it I think

    Hank spoke of this

I think I may have already said this in some form or another itt

But gen z culture is totally fractured in comparison to the prior generations

Everybody is algorithmically sorted into hyper-niches, for better and for worse

Like I could always see how someone would listen to Yung lean or bladee and be like "this sucks" too

And some of this stuff is stranger/more amateurishly done

So it's not crazy to imagine that some people just genuinely dislike it

But I don't see why their conclusion would be that everyone that listens to it is pretending to like these artists that people don't care about for the most part

this is true. everything more fractured now.

    its probably better tbh

I think there's this dividing line between people who grew up in an era before exponentially accelerating change and those who grew up after, and millennials kinda fell right on that line

The people born before fully resign themselves to enjoying simple, consistent, familiar things

People born after were forged in the fire of it, along with having their attention spans zapped, so they are able to keep up with it really well

People born right on the line are pulled in both directions. Generationally and culturally homeless. The perpetual fear of change that old people have, combined with the ravaged attention span of the kids

I’m not turning my Duke Ellington off to listen to EvilWxlter man

I think I caught the last chopper out of saigon as far as somewhat monocultural events goes

Totally anecdotal, but I remember when eternal atake dropped in the middle of school, there wasn't a single male who didn't pull out their headphones in the middle of class. Everybody was excited for and talked about (generally) the same music, movies, shows, sports, etc

I've asked my younger sister, who's only 4 years younger than me, what the popular s*** in her generation is, movies, memes, music, in-jokes, etc, and she said there isn't really anything universal besides the occasional mega-huge tik tok hit or meme, everybody does their own thing

And i'd follow it up with "well like, even within the cliques or friend groups at school, do they share similar media tastes" and she pretty much said that some of the hick types only listen to country or whatever, but besides that, everyone is totally individual
