    Well yeah that's true

I don't think Tuneout has an issue with it being similarly categorized scientifically like he's not saying it's wrong

But being a neurodivergent person is also a label and I think he has more of an issue with them claiming it the same way people with some of the more severe issues do even if it's technically correct

Like if someone was trying to shed a couple pounds and decided to give up drinking a couple beers a night went to AA meetings for it and was sitting next to people who like killed a family through vehicular manslaughter because they were downing a handle of titos behind the wheel to stop shaking

I don't agree or disagree really

The label stuff annoys me and when people make it a part of their identity it annoys me regardless

do mental health professionals way smarter than you or I consider going on hospice to fall under the having cold umbrella

    i completely undertsand that.

but obviusly the worst end of a spectrum for one disorder can be less disruptive than being on the better end of a spectrum for another

it’s not that i have a problem with people moving to a spectrum approach to autism unlike in the past.

its the layman’s understanding of what a spectrum means and who are the faces of these issues. people who are severly dependant with autism are not “the most extreme cases” they are roughly half.

the spectrum approach kinda annoying sometimes

its crazy how every once in a while you get an idiot who's like "i think everyone is a little bit autistic" because they think thats what a spectrum means

ya but he is saying they shouldn’t qualify as “sick” then

    No

I think he agreed with it being scientifically correct to categorize them the same way

But he was questioning them adopting the label when their case is much less severe than other people who choose to use the label

Like even if it's technically correct

    Ya exactly

I understand it’s what they have to use and it works but I think the public misunderstands what the spectrum means. And it minimizes how severe these issues are

right, but severe cases of adhd do exist and can be more hindering than those with autism in many cases. it just makes sense to qualify them under the same label, even if the extreme of one diagnosis outweighs another.

I mean yeah and some people might die from the cold too but I wouldn't describe it as being terminally ill

because then that means people without low-functioning autism cant qualify for the label either

but it’s not a matter of terminally ill it’s a matter of illness in general. it sounds like he’d be more satisfied with another term that means “super severe neurodivergency”.
