I think one of my least favorite things about online music discourse is the performative hatred for stuff that is slightly generic or just popular and average
Like they act so offended over things that aren't at all offensive by design
Like not that they have to like or listen to it
But you don't have to lay it on so thick we get it

totally agree.
the term hipster no longer being used is a tragedy its a great thing to throw around. being a hipster is cool again.
also i dislike how people view art thats deep, or sad, or serious as by default better than something light hearted or fun. which drakes music generally is. with some heartbreak stuff in there. which is think is lighthearted.

yeah totally.
its fine to dislike drake because the music doesnt release the dopamine it does for me or you or bmass or whatever,
but this visceral hatred is so strange. it reminds me of how people treated justin bieber in a lot of ways.
perhaps it has to do with americans being jealous over canadians success.
totally agree.

It's like they have to express that they hate easy listening music as a concept
And I don't understand why they feel like they need to do that
It is just being a hipster basically ur right
i know i have a reputation of liking a lot of stuff people dont. but i have my hot takes too.
like im not a big fan of gnx. which is too bad because i do love kendrick. i like gkmc more than any drake album, event tho i do like drakes music more than kendrick’s overall.
but im not like saying how i HATE gnx and how its sad and pitiful and i hate kendrick lol
or taylor swift like i really do dislike her music and how image of how shes always this doe eyes victim. but im not going online and just posting about how much i hate her in taylor swift communities lol because that woudl be strange behaviour
It's like they have to express that they hate easy listening music as a concept

yeah i genuinely think its because hipsters are no longer shamed.
now the hipsters have taken over the world again.
and the voices who hate drake the most, like fantano, p4k, rym etc. were literlly the most notorious hipsters ever back in that era
and the hipster thing i think comes from insecurity,
not that everybody who dislikes drake is insecure or people who like him are secure. im not saying that.
but theres a large and vocal group of people who are insecure. and they want to listen to the most notorious “cool” music. Disliking drake as a way to signal to other people how cool they are lol. and that influences other insecure people etc. which is very differnt than people who jsut dont like his music.
like when i tell people drake is my second favourite artist ever, people dont usually go damn thats such a cool opinion. u gotta be kinda secure in what you enjoy to be a vocal modern drake fan. even though hes the biggest artist in the world.

They are peacocking with their special little unique music opinions
They need everyone to know about it

yes exactly!!
I don't understand how people watch Anthony fantano and have a good time doing it
I've tried watching his reviews before and he's so unserious about anything that falls out of his nerdy niche interests almost condescending
It's obnoxious to watch
As a reviewer this is not a way to treat art even if you dislike it
He is far too showy
and people are like well hes super popular stop acting like hes the underdog or that everybody doesnt love him or whatever,
but i think most of his streams are coming from casual, top 40 hits listening people. women who put random hits from him on their playlists at the gym etc.
people who are hardcore music fans, that are listening to whole albums, follow new releases etc. within THAT group of people, which are the people who are the most vocal on the internet, drake is def not unanimously popular. at least drake past if youre reading this.
If your review feels like a hit piece you're doing something wrong and it kinda invalidates the scores and the whole idea of what you're doing

oh man dont get me started on him
hes is the definition of insufferable hipster.
a vegan guy, who with no actual music ability or knowledge beyond any other fan, decides to upload videos of your reviews. its so egotistical and hipstery. like i gets hes just a guy giving an opinion, but he is maybe the most famous contemporary music critic to younger people lol he has a lot of influence. its not like me or you just saying our opinion to eachother

He is far too showy
yeah 100% he uses his reviews as a way to come off as superior to other people and people watch his videos to become close as enlightened as he is.
i also think his perspective on music is childish.
to hate mbdtf and drake lol but love kendrick and death grips. it really is just this childish view of music. idk how else to describe it.
its like people in the 70s that hated the beatles because they were too fruity and soft and wanted that RAW music like the stones or black sabbath.
at the time that was entertained but looking back those people who thought about it like that just seem childish

Was better at explaining why he didn’t like stuff/ better at doing more “full” reviews pre like 2018 ish
I only click on his like big album reviews atp and even then meh
i cant find it anymore but I saw a clip of his old live noise rock band like way back in 2012-13sh and it was so ass.
people dont realize how little knowledge he has about making music and art in general

Generally people who are good at doing something don't settle for talking about it professionally

i think the things he fixates on that bother him in songs are often just nonesense. like in hip hop, he just tears apart anything that has silly lyrics or lines. even though most people who are fans that listen to it undertsand those lines are jsut light hearted and not serious. like this review of hndrxx by future and how he tears apart the lines. its like sometimes people can have fun, thats not bad writing or a turn off.
fantano would be the kinda guy in the 70s to say the beatles writing sucks because of octopus garden and i am the walrus, because its not deep like bob dylan or raw like the stones. just a foolish opinion
and also his opinions are strange from he way he listens to music.
he like listens to every album the same amount of times, he doesnt just live and grow with albums like we do, u can see it on his spotify rundown or whatever. just listening to music like its a job is going to give you weird views on it.
This is best purrp Avi

yeah
and obviously theres nothign wrong with having and sharing opinions. whether you make music or not doesnt make your opinon more valid. if youre a music fan like most of us
but if youre a professional music critique, whose whole job revolves around supposedly knowing what music people want to hear and should base their financial decisions around it off your opinon. then i dont undertsand why i would take advice from somebody who is clealry infinitely less knowledgeable than a real musician.
like i was listening to andre 3k a few years ago in an interview with rick rubin and he was tlaking about how much he loves future, how tyler the creator and teezo touchdown are carrying on the blueprint outkast left the best. and that the music he listens to mostly now is steve reich. IM going to give that opinion a lot of thought and weight. and im more likely to give his suggestions and perspectives a chance, since he clealry knows music

Yeah basically this is why I’ve grown off him bc I feel like you can feel this on him with the reviews and s*** now
Like idk not all things can you have a full conclusion on 3 days later idk

theres things that take literal years to grow on me. and things i love after 2 listens that i never wanna touch again.
its not like idk videogame reviews where there are kinda objective elements like oh the game is only 5 hours long, its very buggy, theres microtransactions, they keep reusing the same enemies etc. theres something you can get out of that.
with a lot of music you can’t do it like that.
what he is good for, is to keep tabs on none hip hop music that up and coming. there will be albums that ive never heard of that will be reviewed and i wont watch the review and just listen to the album. but i dont search his channel out or anything but sometimes itll get recommend and ill see something or whatever. p4k good for tht too

Andre 3000 praised teezo touchdown
Music is dead!
