Vacuum tubes introduce something called "even order harmonics" to the sound, which is technically distortion, but it's a specific type of distortion that oftentimes compliments the music you're listening to. Modern solid state headphone amps will almost always be superior to tubes on an objective level, but it's fun to collect old tubes and see how they color the sound.

makes perfect sense
kinda like how vinyls adds a warmth and hiss and crackles and changes the sound.
its not objectively better per say but a different experience that can be better subjectively depending on the music.
