well we have to be honest
like maybe you were around it but you obviously never cared as much and dont even care now
you never made an attempt to learn the language and enjoy it on a deeper level nor do you listen to it everyday like him or make it a part of your life actively
passively consuming a culture you happen to be near is not the same as consciously choosing to dive into it deeply
