There is a little bit of “know your audience” finesse that’s needed for the general public to decide something is good.

Kendrick decided to subvert that completely and make it a presentation of the GNX era.
Some people obviously weren’t going to like that approach because it’s different. Me? I respect it and enjoyed it for what it was. Since he already did MAAD City and Alright in 2022. Could’ve slipped in Money Trees or a censored BDKMV but I get what he didn’t. Show was very deliberate in being in the present.
i agree with that and still think it was pulled off well for what he intended. just dont think its the best move still. no shame in still having a big GNX era presentation just dipping into hits for a few minutes more than he did
not even counting the woat racists like i mentioned, i cant help feel that a lot of casual kendrick knowers were watching the deep cuts uninterested. and substance wise i dont see a song like peekaboo adding much besides just being part of gnx
i think the super bowl halftime is kind of a weird situation for performance anyway. its always a balance of capturing the audience and following the artist vision but losing too much sight of the former with so many eyeballs watching can lessen the impact of everything imo
