PurrpMe and @Kdogone talk about it all the time. Subtlety and subtext was 100x more appealing and honestly alluring, I blame to some extent mid 2010’s r&b acts like bc the music was super explicit
Hip-hop does play a part. Everyone sees it as “cool” and wants to be looked at as cool as well. Pop especially has no shame in how much it’s borrowed and appropriated from Hip-Hop over the last decade.
But it’s like…they’re separate genres for a reason. Getting overtly sexual and vulgar in rap works because they’ve been doing it for YEARS and alot of the time, they actually know how to write those kinds of lyrics.
Pop artists don’t and it comes off not only tryhand, but gross. There’s nothing wrong with being a little more subtle and conservative in the writing.
