There are artists, big artists in the music scene who definitely pay attention to his reviews on the low and get upset when he doesnt give them a favorable review though.
Drake for example.

Like he really is just a white nerd who shares his opinion at the end of the day but people go nuts over it. To the point he has huge artists like Drake and SZA DMing him and insulting him. The fact he has that much pull amongst music fans and huge artists.
I mean really who else is really important in that lane at this point. What other music critic is as prolific? People don’t give a s*** about publications anymore it’s just him. I don’t even think someone else could replicate his successful he was in the right place at the right time

As a left leaning progressive it very much irritates me in the music scene when critics review a body of work and review the artist as a person instead.

This a convo that’s prob been done to death in here but R Kelly. Is it possible to separate his music from him?
Songs like “seems like you’re ready” “age aint nothing but a number” are hard to take on their own
I still like some of his music but full separation is tough if nigh impossible for some people

Yeah I agree. Fantano does a good job presenting his opinions even if you subjectively disagree with them.

Its a very difficult conversation to have because we burn R. Kelly yet tend to look over certain artists or dont give them the same level of malice.
Like how alot of the classic rock musicians from the 60s and 70s were pedos by todays standards. Yet we dont really give them any of that energy.
For me its like I can objectively recognize R. Kelly is a great singer and made some great songs. He will never be on my playlists and as a person he can rot in f***ing hell. But I try my best to separate the art from the artist because I am a hypocrite when it comes to other artists who have done bad things.

Its a situation of different era for sure.
That doesnt make it ok that it happened. But the context in the late 60s early 70s was definitely perceived differently than 2023. Artists weren't put under a microscope like they are now with social media. And alot of people also were guilty of writing off that type of behavior back then as well.
