but really

you start out liking a song and a group, and then find more songs, and more groups, and then u invest more like watching their appearances and checking twitter on s***, and before you know it, you're arguing against randoms online about details of idols you have no idea about, but think you know based on articles from s***ty gossip aggregator sites, and random stans on twitter who claim s*** too

what im trying to say is that a huge part of kpop is everything that exists outside the songs and music video. i remember it seemed so strange to even bother learning the names of the members of groups as i was really only in it for how well they crafted songs/dances/and videos. i would remember ppl would battle s*** online, and it seemed sooo superfluous. but it just happens. so yeah, there's a lottttttt of drama that happens within kpop (as you see now), and often it's over s*** that seems like total nonsense for many international fans. | sometimes it can be serious (extremes being the suicides and criminal cases). |

in the end, again, it's what u make of it- it's only natural to get more invested and attached tho. but like me, ive kinda been fading from keeping up with a lot of that stuff (compared to before ). like just gimme the mv and performances. sht like appearances / vlives / show wins, etc, i really dont make any effort to keep up with.

I respect these people and don't really go outside of what they present to the public. I mean, I will watch Blackpink documentrary, Time to Twice or some ASMR VLIVE , but I don't care about their private life.

Yeah, I got you, from the outside kpop looks weird because of this obsession with certain people that fans have, even I regret that I fell into this trap and start following this genre only this year.

I think it's fine that people get attached to certain celebrities, there just should be some boundaries of what do you wanna know about idols, and for me it's kind of ends on what they put out there. I really hope that there aren't any MIley Cyrus cases, you know how she said on Joe Rogan that while people saw her as this innocent Hanna Montana, she was doing d**** 24/7.

i would also say its possible to consume kpop content without putting idols on a pedestal, and overall that's the healthy way to go about it and leads to more disengagement from the overload of content

Why are you not buying them?

On the topic of spoilers, I sometimes can't understand what to do, because it is hard to differentiate between something that artist wants you to check out, and something that label puts out to raise awareness about the project.

I'll try your spoilerless approach for the next time

those are great- we all start somewhere. i want to go back and buy all the twice ones {some day soon i hope }

but yeah, i used to buy a good amount but i just simply could not and still cant afford it so i made a decision about a little more than a year ago to just stop

i still make exceptions tho lol. i think it's just loona / gfriend / and iu that without question i'll buy the comebacks even before the song comes out. twice used to be on this list but when dance the night away came out, i was on a mission to save money to see them live. i told myself i would buy the album after seeing them, and get back on the train of buying each comeback for them but once you get off the train, it's kinda easier to not get back on. :/
red velvet was another group i bought sht for without question but eventually they put out stuff i couldn't even lie to myself that i liked it, so i stopped buying their stuff too.

so yeah, i just have to get my money straight so i can buy more s***.....

I feel you the albums which I ordered are basically a New Year present to myself I've forgotten that I also ordered a Blackpink summer diary, because I really wanted to have a photobook from them
Did you see TWICE live?
I wasn't even a fan a year go, but now I really want them to come to Europe in the next tour.

I finally got around to listening, it sounds good but I think some of the songs will grow on me still. I appreciate all of your recommendations! I'm probably going to start getting into RV and the other artists you mentioned this weekend

I kinda want to but I feel like that would be getting too close to being one of those people especially since the majority of my friends are from Vietnam. Plus over the summer I started learning, funnily enough, Russian lol
