    Shes so lucky

    Shes a star

so ive only had a few listens to celebrity, but overall im ..alright with it but i find myself liking it more and more with each listen

my aforementioned reference to Lucky when we first saw images of the concept kinda highlighted what i feel most were thinking: "ah yes, the tired 'tired celebrity' trope". from one perspective, kpop casuals will claim it's what's separated iu from others: "immense mega star is open and forthcoming in songs about the difficulties of being a star!" so in a way, she's giving more of what people want with what so far has been proven success. from another (more astute) perspective, many of those type of songs are misread and superficially put into this category (e.g. palette).

Regardless, this motif/theme exists in the minds of many when regarding IU so when we are given juxtaposed images titled Celebrity, i don't think anyone is wrong for immediately jumping to conclusions.

    so all. that. said.

i loved when i heard the line 'youre my celebrity'

first, it does....grate my ears the smallest bit ever to hear 'celebrity' used this in this way. i think the IMMEDIATE connotations of celebrity make it a poor choice of a word for what it's being used for. But, i do recognize that perhaps for other people, especially if another language is their primary language, the translation of celebrity and like... 'star' for example are kinda one in the same.

so getting over that, it's a nice line. i actually was driving the other day thinking to myself of how such small lines are more impactful than they should be (like ''now i worship you'' {weezer} shout out @Ithaka). it's not that they're amazing and never said before, but the sentiment is uniquely felt i guess. running with this, i think on its own it's nice, but if you dont separate iu as the narrator, then it's even more a-ffective with the angle '"you're iu's idol omgggg".

anyway, so content wise plus the video, it's pretty touching w its message of "baby {you're} a star!"

soundwise, eh, i don't mind it. tbh because my other king porter robinson is releasing a song in like two hours, the instrumental break immediately reminds me of him, but then again, i already have his music in the back of my head while i await the release so that could be why.

i do know ppl have issue with like..i guess how mainstream pop type sound it sounds like. but that's like being blind to the fact that it's....iu. like what have you been hearing and expecting this whole time??

    anyway, that's really it

it'll be a case by case basis I guess? I know for a fact some groups probably won't as they'll be on Universe (a competitor to Weverse that's being launched by NC soft), having various platforms is good for the market anyways.

some groups that are already on Universe:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universe_(platform)

though this integration of Vlive + weverse will take at least a year. I wouldn't worry too much tbh, Weverse already has a bunch of groups active on it that aren't under the Bighit labels umbrella and I think Bighit want to expand much further which can be seen by what they're doing in collaboration with YG.

Cool, thanks for that. I was trying to get my head around it but was struggling a little. 🙏🏾
