I feel like JID is what Nick Grant shouldāve been
I wonder what would have happened if TDE had signed Grant

Feel like he wouldāve seen more success but ultimately I could see him being REASON level (except much better as an artist). Iām guessing he doesnāt have the catch factor like JID got overall tho
Theyāre not bad per-se but they stick out a bit on the album and they also just arenāt the type of song Iām tuning into him to hear. They were misleading singles vs the albumās sound otherwise. Rest of the album is great though. A lot of Dreamville canāt escape this curse of being too same-y sounding or having this one very specific J Cole-lite sound to them but this sticks outside in terms of production as well as JIDās insane talent as a performer. I didnāt realize he could sing like that
He been singing since Para Tu but yeah he definitely getting tighter with it; as a vocalist I think heās undoubtedly one of the most compelling at the moment
On DiCaprio 2 the (valid) knock against him was he was engaging in too much āfast rappingā (impliedly style over substance) but I think by and large he earns it tbh, I donāt perceive his rapping as an indulgent lyrical exercise at all
Great album.
My one big gripe is with the exception of lauder too, I was surprisingly underwhelmed by the kaytranada and monte booker production on here tbh

Yeah the last point i definitely agree with. Heās rapping fast or switching his flows a lot at times but heās definitely topically saying stuff throughout the album, itās not just arbitrary
kody blu 31
i definitely wouldnt mind a r&b/soul ep or full album of jid singing throughout he has a nice voice.
after this album i would love to hear JID make his own The Love Below type album.
Best album that dropped today
