this album is fantastic tbh but man the singles did this dirty af, they don't fit or reflect the quality of the album at all.

also i was confused as hell because on a few places (inc the official youtube/yt music playlist) they messed up the track listing completely. forgot to include surround sound and accidentally uploaded better days twice w/ one of them being duplicated but under bruddanem. i was like wait a minute this doesn't sound like durk

Played the album twice before giving my thoughts.

Best JID work ever. No question about it. This s*** is immaculate. From the production, to features and especially JID himself. This feels like the one he had potential to make all along and he finally did.

The only downside is that 2007 couldn’t be put on streaming which is an absolute tragedy because that song is a 10/10 and a masterpiece. Lauder Too doesn’t feel like an outro because it isn’t. Regardless, JID knocked s*** out of the park with this one. I went in expecting a great album and got a top 5 AOTY contender, up there with Kendrick and company.

I was bumping this going to work and stopped at the grocery store and as I was getting out of my car, this Mexican chick wearing the bare minimum of clothing acceptable for a 9:30 am H-E-B visit (no moral judgment, just objective statement) parked next to me and got out of her red Ford Expedition with dealer plates and I could hear her bumping this (very loudly) too

I wonder if the “putative ‘radio fare’ for the singles and hide the completely different good stuff for the album” strategy actually works (or I guess what constitutes working)

I don’t think the singles are bad even but they aren’t like undeniable summer on smash level slappers either so they should have just focused on bars for promotion

They’re not bad per-se but they stick out a bit on the album and they also just aren’t the type of song I’m tuning into him to hear. They were misleading singles vs the album’s sound otherwise. Rest of the album is great though. A lot of Dreamville can’t escape this curse of being too same-y sounding or having this one very specific J Cole-lite sound to them but this sticks outside in terms of production as well as JID’s insane talent as a performer. I didn’t realize he could sing like that
