You’re a newbie don’t even think about ‘maingaining’ or bulking anytime soon. If you’re skinny fat, you have excess body fat. Your goal is to drop the body fat so the best thing to do is to restrict your calories aka ‘cut’. Don’t do an aggressive cut like an advanced lifter would but literally just eat in a slight deficit(maybe 1-200 cals) and as a newbie you will still gain muscle easily while losing fat.

Weighted pushups are a good alternative. I get a way better activation that way
But a slight arch and pulling the shoulders back and down will help too
