I’d expect somebody seriously into body building to say some s*** like this
i was just playing lmao
but yeah, i'd somewhat agree with you on being more functional and have an aesthetic physique as opposed to being mass monster. i think most people's perception of what an aesthetic physique varies a lot though. like, physiques i thought were amazing in my first 1-2 years of training seem very mediocre to me now
Recently went from 180 to 163. Went on an pretty gnarly cut to get the abs I’m looking for.
Stayed in the gym so chest and arm definition still intact and hitting the core more now.
Gonna bump my calories back up once I hit 160ish and build muscles and weight back up slowly to 170ish.
Gotta stay lean, that’s the key
the reason i always delayed working out besides being lazy is that i didnt wanna become huge again. i just lost almost half of my bodyweight and i like my new slim physique.
Gettin huge is stupid. You have to work endlessly to look that way and practically live for your muscles lol.
Having an aesthetically pleasing athletic muscle tone look that’s not hard to keep up and is functional on a daily basis makes far more sense. It’s even been shown to be the most favorable look amongst women
To answer the first reply, athlean x has been proving to be wrong on so much s*** except his sport performance content.
This second post is just not true. Your body only knows two things in regards to building a physique, muscle building and fat composition. No such thing as working on ‘muscle tone’. Next, genetics are the name of the game. I can guarantee you that you will never be so big that you look unappealing naturally. Even the top tier men’s open olympians were barely cracking 200 lbs natty. S***, even Jeff cavaliers muscularity is unachievable for a lot of men naturally and a decent proportion while on exogenous hormones. The idea of ‘oh you’re going to get too big and gross’ is the most uninformed concept ever. The truth is, the ‘athletic’ aesthetic look you’re talking about is built under the SAME principles of muscle building. Get big(build muscle) and stay relatively lean. If your goals are to have any kind of decent muscle mass on that ‘athletic look’ you best believe you’re going to have to dedicate a lot of time and have a ‘get big’ mentality. Even Zyzz, who wasn’t that ‘big’ was juiced to the gills and 110% dedicated to the gym. Also in regards to favorable look to women, again I guarantee you no amount of muscle you can put on naturally will ever be gross to women. S***, even on roids most men will never be big enough to be disgusting to most women. Arnold never had a problem with women at 6’2 240. The golden era men always had women fawning over them at 220+ lbs lean. S***, even most classic physique guys today when they’re not pealed out of their minds would be attractive to most women. You’re conflating the top men’s open 250+ lbs mass monsters with bodybuilding and that’s just not even in the realm of possibility for most men.

Yeah the more you train the more the goalpost shifts. I used to think 5’10-6’0 165 lbs lean was the peak male physique. Now I think it’s closer to 190-210 lbs lean. A little smaller than golden era guys. Everyone agrees mass monster look is ugly outside of a bodybuilding stage but most of us can probably never get anything close to that and for sure getting that big requires a level of commitment and programming that you won’t just stumble on. Like as you learn more about training you find that the most dedicated natural guys even with the best natty genetics barely look bigger than like a Zyzz or kino body level muscularity which no one would call ‘too big’

started lifting June 1st until now Aug 16 (2.5 month)
stats:
6'0 - 6'0
183 lb - 200 lb
115 - 185 bench
155 - 275 deadlift
65 - 115 ohp
155 - 265 squat
ive made good strength gains but i still want more and i dont feel like hella fat, but i do think ive gained weight a bit too fast so im adjusting my surplus
goals: i want to get my bench up to 2 plates and my dl to 3 and my ohp up to 1 -- thinking ill get there when i hit 210/215?
thoughts?
honestly think thats pretty good progress
keep at it!
looking into refeeding 1 day before workouts. i dont eat carbs so no carb refeeding, i’ll look into caloric refeeding
In terms of diet, do i HAVE to get a form of meat in a day to successfully bulk? Or as long as i hit my surplus and macros ill be good?
Cause im 200 cals away from hittin it and hit my protein goals but i havent eaten meat all day

since im the amateur nutritionist ITT my argument against that would be meat is the most complete source of protein.
but if u eat a lot sources of protein, they will together form a complete source of protein.
either way u good

Yeah, more of a health thing tho. The bulk is just the plus. I HAVE to be hungry all the time. When i wasnt always hungry i pretty much let myself wither away. Literally my weight was pretty anorexic type ish and i didnt even notice or realize it. im surprised i was still functioning.
