The only artist I would put above Nas is Hov. Really study his impact and discography. It’s actually unbelievable.
@Goo is lurking and on discord commented...
Nas is the greatest ever.
Notable Nas albums: Illmatic, It Was Written, Stillmatic, The Lost Tapes, God's Son, Untitled, Distant Relatives, Life Is Good, King's Disease.
Limiting Nas to Illmatic is wrong. His next albums consistently get more mature, at times more personal and intimate, more daring and diverse musically and conceptually, more universal and so on.
His peers Biggie and Pac died too soon. While they were equals to Nas in their lives they didn't get to evolve and expand their craft the same way Nas did.
Jay-Z is his main contender, but on three of his most notable albums: BP/TBA/AG he was mainly a braggadocious rapper with some deeper moments scattered throughout. He tried to clown on Nas for kicking knowledge only to end up doing the same almost 2 decades later. Pop rap fans might find his output more fun.
Ye had a great run musically but his concepts and lyrics aren't as good. He isn't the vivid storyteller that Nas is. His rapping doesn't make heads spin. He doesn't really have that raw hip hop feeling that most Nas fans prefer.
And then you have Wayne who is nowhere near Nas' level lyrically and his discog isn't as consistent plus never reached the same heights.
Nas' loosies alone are superior to most discogs btw. The hate he gets on KTT is really weird and mainly comes from ppl who've never listened to him apart from Illmatic. Some of them never really heard Illmatic either.
😁
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Yes yes
In general though, study the greats guys. Like just don’t listen to the old albums but figure out what motivated them and the meaning behind the lyrics. That’s how I got into hip-hop 12ish years ago. Started in the 80s and moved forward to the present, which was about 2008-2009. So by that time I heard The Carter 3, Graduation, American Gangster I had perspective and caught all their historical references. It will make you really SEE the musicians. Lastly, it will give you proper perspective about the new hip-hop artists and whose worth listening to.

I been listening to rap since 2004 b. Just cause I don't have Nas top 5 doesn't mean i didn't study the greats lol. I don't have g rap there either. Doesn't mean I don't know his music
no one can top Wayne's The Suffix, Carter 2, Dedication 2, Like Father Like Son, Da Drought 3, Carter 3 and No Ceilings run and i didn't even include the leaks

rapping wise yeah but musically
top 5 is subjective and someone can always make a really good argument for why nas would be in theirs
I think Top 10 best MC's is subjective
but GOAT list is more objective

that's why i said greatest, not best.
Wayne got classic tapes and even if that Carter s*** is true thats more good albums than Nas
Wayne has at best 2 classics and 1 great album (the first 3 Carter’s). I don’t really give a f*** about “freestyles” over popular instrumentals personally. Nas has illmatic, it was Written, Stillmatic, Lost Tapes, Gods Son, Life is Good and Kings Disease
Better case than Em or Drake easily, you’re putting too much stock in mainstream s***, Nas will always be up there for people who care about hip hop. Including Kanye is also laughable
Nas is literally the second best rapper alive. Rakim is #1 obvs Nas is a direct descendant but he took things to another level. Trying to discredit Nas is really dumb it's like trying to hate on Muhammad Ali.
Em type gassed off doing s*** that Chino XL and Redman were already doing.
this
eminem is mid so duh
Objectively speaking we putting biggie on the top 5 for 2 albums?
yeah, yall act like Biggie PLANNED on getting smoked at 24.
At 24 he had TWO genre defining albums in an era that had very tough competition.
Biggie deff up there
Y'all be ranking Wayne top 5 off mixtapes and that's cool and all but when it comes to his albums his discography shaky as hell, he has quite a few duds in there

Honestly who gives a f***. His run from dedication 2 to no ceilings is nothing short of impressive one of the best hip hop runs weve ever had the pleasure to witness.
Yes and he's flat out better than Wayne who was never good lol, eminem who has sucked for 20 years now, kanye who rapped well on like 1 album and drake
Wayne never good? f*** off
That's subjective. But if we are talking about album's greatness, Ready to Die and MMLP are just as great as Illmatic.
MFDoom has no case for top 25 let alone top 5
Doom definitely has a good ass case for top 5 doa f*** that stupid s*** you're talking about.
MF DOOM definitely has a case for top 25. Please stop
Easy you can fit him inro a top 3 probably doa and I'd have a hard time debating that s*** againstt. He literally has all the traits of a goat rapper.

Cuz niggas always give those other artists OP posted s*** for duds in their discography but always shy away from Wayne's mid.
And I'm tired of niggas bringing up mixtapes and not showing love to 50 Cent & G-Unit's run on that circuit
