I remember boy said he did extensive research for Lighthouse listening to mad interviews and audios from that time frame just so he could perfect the dialogue.
Makes sense why he came correct. For the VVitch he got hold of some journals from that time period.
He's a special filmmaker.
This was spooky
Seriously unsettling work from Depp and Skarsgard
Just wish eggers studied his later Murnau a little more cause his Faust and Sunrise have the same pitch black foreboding atmosphere but utilized enough light that you weren't just peering into a void the entire time.
@sace agree about the lighting or no?
Actually on second thought I think you can put a review without a rating cus of embargo
Wym it no problem to leave no stars

Pretty well all of the dialogue and phrasing used in VVitch was pinched from ye olde texts as well apparently
I had a good time with Alien Romulus and the franchise has a special place in my heart but it really didn’t do anything new for me to have it up there with the best movies of the year at all
It just felt so f***ing good to really enjoy an alien movie again.

yea... seriously though i feel there's a bit of barry lyndon thrown into it

Eggers says language and mythology/folklore are his main passions, even above cinema
That what really "elevates" his horror. Knowing were not getting horror filtered through the prism of yet another horror film nerd but through the actually unique perspective of a real general history fanatic.
Forgot the plot of Romulus within about ten minutes
Sounds like a memory issue
Sounds like a memory issue
Nope it was a "we already seen this same story in this same franchise" issue
My gf is smart as a whip and also didn't realize we just watched it a few months ago until we were 5 minutes in

It lends so well to the genre cause what’s scarier than history?

Alien Romulus better but this was good. Will probably rewatch in a theater before it leaves.
I need to see Robert do an alien movie. The atmosphere in the movie would be crazy.
MAJOR SPOILER SO ONLY RESPOND TO IT OR ANY POST INVOLVING IT IN SPOILER TAGS
While Nosferatu is dying he looks like Hoult or Houltish for a reason or am I tripping. Because there was a larger point about toxc masculinity on all sides of this movie. Continously not believing women victims til it cost them their lives. Yes her sexuality is on display but an basic view of "omg her o face" . Her o\*\*\*\*\* is part of what frees her. When she has hoult f\*\*\* her like that she wants to be ravaged. She doesnt want to be treated poorly nor is it like he is slapping her during the s\*\*\*in eithercase its intimate. TheI could be a good girl s\*\*\* isnt some p\*\*\* level s\*\*\*. She recongnizes that without her sexuality what do these men want from her. She does many other actions including having his kids yet he will leave her at a moments notice to smoke tobacco and drink with the boys
also there is no way you aren't connecting many of these things
I put that when folks was saying its not feminist
Nos towards end you see more of his real face . He has same mustache as hout

You spend so much time schizo posting on disposable ktt threads when you could be schizo posting LB reviews that will be saved for posterity

ah yes nosferatu the never before told story. Not like a film just last year came out that’s similar.

Lol ok you got me there but I'd say Skarsgard is a more unique and memorable variant on Nosferatu than Cailee Spaeny's variant on Ripley.
Also that's only 3 Nosferatus in a hundred years as opposed to 9 Alien films in 45 years.

Lol if he portrayed the things Vlad actually did then people would say he's being unrealistic and over the top with his gore

"schizo " this "schizo" that why don't yall type up some thoughts about meaning of movies rather than milking each other quantifying sales or quality

This is one of the reasons I wish he fully did Dracula instead, as a matter of fact the whole movie left me wondering why he didn’t just fully adapt Dracula

I try to forget about most of those alien movies.
I agree it was different. Loved the entire part going to the castle. I really liked it I just love alien.
