$399 USD for a home only model that is weaker than the Xbox Series S but much stronger than the 2017 docked Switch
id buy it easily
id use my current OG model on my 1080p bedroom TV that's only 32"
id put a potential Home model in the living room on 4K with my XSX and soon PS5 and my gf has her Lite now for when we travel
When nintendo tried to release a powerful home console its lifetimes sales reached 22 million. When they tried a fun and unique gimmick like motion control it sold 101 million consoles. Makes sense tho cause why would people pay for a nintendo console thats weaker than xbox and ps5, a big reason switch is selling like hot cakes is cause you can play it wherever you want, especially with huge games like zelda and skyrim. its a way better deal. Thats why im being fairly realistic about a switch pro, its cause you can do so much with a hybrid console without making you pay too much

It’s been 4 years... they can make a MUCH stronger switch for 299 now
There’s no reason to make it 399
Not to mention it’ll be ~5 years when the switch pro drops in late 2021 or early 2022
5 years in terms of tech is a long ass time
i’m really enjoying paper mario rn, maybe it’s cause i got it cheap, but i’m def happy with it so far

I agree but I think a cutting edge Nintendo home console would work better in like, 2024 than it did in 2001
A big factor of this being third party support. PlayStation is no longer the default platform for third parties, and in Japan specifically they're a distant second to Nintendo. If Nintendo were to go the home console route I'm sure they'd fare better. But I kind of hope they never go back regardless

the other big factor being all Nintendo games developed right now are for Switch OS, Android, iOS or all 3
back in the 2000s we went from 64 and Gameboy to GC and Gameboy Adv to Wii and DS to Wii U and 3DS
that s*** was so "all over the place" with each console's OS different, each console's gimmick and each game's gimmick
in 2022 we could get a Pro model that's gimmick is playing your same handheld favorites but with near-industry standard home TV performance instead
with a new software technology that allows a full game state to transfer from Pro to Lite within seconds, they could market the Pro and Lite as an alternative combo from the usual OG model

They're doing better than the PlayStation in japan cause switch is portable
Pinata village level 5 secret shine might be the worst designed Nintendo level ever made, im sure they put it there just to f*** with people and increase playtime cause nobody in their right minds would put something like that on a videogame
It’s actually not that hard
wtf lmao the gamecube controller is a janky toy, way out of ergonomic design standards and they were never wireless lol
Actually there were wireless gamecube controllers. I own a wireless one
nostalgia is one hell of a d***
Gamecube controller is only optimal for one game
Wrong.
Optimal for 64, Sunshine, Mario Kart, and Smash.
Games that need all buttons the new gamecube controllers with all the buttons >>>>> pro controller.
They're doing better than the PlayStation in japan cause switch is portable
They're doing better because of their software offerings compared to PlayStation. If it was only about being portable, Ring Fit Adventure, a game that is only available in TV mode wouldn't be a 2 million-seller. And if it was only about being portable, the Vita wouldn't have flopped so hard. The decline of the home console market is a result of the decline of the PlayStation brand in Japan, not the other way around.
Sony's first party has become increasingly Western-focused since the PS2 days, which is why they've been buying up timed exclusivity for major games with Japanese appeal. That, and they've constantly sidelined their Japanese base for years. From PS4 launching 2 months after it did in Western countries, to PS5 getting the short end of the stick when it comes to Japanese stock.

I think we'll get a pro revision next year. It's gotten to the point where Switch games consistently look pretty good but perform really poorly. See: Age of Calamity
I don't ever see Nintendo dropping the portable aspect of the Switch, but they could always surprise us. Maybe they'll release a Switch Home around the same time as an updated Switch Pro to cover all bases.
Personally I just want to play games that perform well. 60fps BOTW/BOTW2 is a pretty big selling point

Im not complaining because of the difficulty but because its bad game design. How can you center a time based level around a mechanic that wastes you a lot of seconds. Piantas throwing you not only doesnt work for that secret shine but it doesn't work at all. You need to talk to them first and to do that you need to be Just close enough or youll jump thus wasting seconds. Then you have to be at the PERFECT angle or they'll throw you out of the map and kill you. Its stupid and it shouldnt have been implemented. Dont make me talk about lilypads and that stupid 8 coins level and how unnecessarily long it takes you to reach it. Mario sunshine has some Amazing ideas but also some horrible ones

Software def plays a part but the biggest reason is portability, japanese spend almost all day on trains and buses so thats the only time they get to plsy games. Sony switched demographic cause Nintendo with the switch being able to play big games on the go. PlayStation until now the ps5 was huge in japan going toe to toe against Nintendo but when nintendo pulled the switch it started replacing the ps4 in japan and sony took the opportunity to focus on the west basically leaving all japan to Nintendo. All the portable consoles nintendo released (ds, gameboy and 3ds) have sold individually more than the ps2 and ps4 in japan, there's a reason for that

Age of calamity looks bad because of koei tecmo, they dont know ho to optimize games for switch, in fact they're games are usually the worst performing on switch. But yeah in 2 years the switch will be too outdated and they'll need an upgrade

Ultimately you just need a steady combination of appealing hardware as well as appealing software, and Sony's offerings on both fronts are abysmal for Japanese tastes at the moment.
I wholeheartedly believe that a dedicated home console could succeed in Japan as long as the software is there. Maybe not to the extent of a portable, but definitely more than the past 3 Sony consoles.
Basically, if Nintendo ever decided to re-enter the ring on that front (which they probably won't), good software could be enough to offset the relatively low appeal of console gaming in Japan. These days are nothing like the Gamecube/PS2 era is all I'm saying
