I overplayed the s*** out of SOS too
I grabbed a few tracks from the deluxe but ultimately didn’t like it nearly as much as SOS. I don’t think you’re missing much tbh

I’m not talking about the quality of the music though. People downplay morgan wallen album numbers by bringing up its number of tracks. Does that criticism not apply when the album is good?

It's why no one has ever complained about Songs In The Key Of Life having 21 tracks.

ngl, as a SZA fan, I definitely facepalmed seeing the tracklist initially.

It does flow good overall as an album. Even though I do think there's like 3-4 tracks I personally could do without.

I do miss/wish there was a way for artists to do a digital double album though frfr.

They can. Apple Music and I think Spotify shows the album as two discs. Mr morale on AM shows as disc 1 and disc 2

I wonder how SOS escapes the “streaming slop” narrative to downplay its numbers when the album has 42 songs with its deluxe

Its mainly a thing people say online about rap

YMCMB have really been going out sad. For such a talented cast, they turned into caricatures of themselves and cant resist their envy towards other artists on other black-music labels (TDE, Roc Nation, etc.) who are much more corp-savvy and have a tightly-runned ship.

Lol yall be trying to push narrative so bad

That album is so far away from the streaming era
I would hope that no calls it streaming slop for its longer tracklist

Because it is 10000x harder to not fatigue an audience through and hour long 20+ tracks of bars coming at you.

I'm one of the biggest Pac fans here and even I think AEOM had some filler.

It's only been like twice that I've heard the 20+ track formula work and that's with Vince Staples and K.R.I.T.

    she's 42 btw yall

It's gonna always be tough in rap to hold the public's attention for more than 15+ tracks and not be seen as "oh an attempt for streaming"

Like why did Drake give us Gently bro? @Miltdawg

Eh its more so because how rap discussion has turned into stan wars over everything so people find reasons to hate.

Songs are also shorter now so you can have 20 tracks be 45 minutes. I dont think runtime is really an issue.

It didn’t say disc 1, disc 2 but it always restarted. Like on scorpion, once you got to fade it would say track 1 instead of track 13

it's not about stan wars to me personally lol.

I think what makes rap double discs work is when it feels conceptual, not even on like a "story" s*** but like, KRIT's whole thing was 1st disc was mostly upbeat turn up s***. and the 2nd disc was conscious/more jazzier s***. As a concept that worked for me and kept me from feeling "damn, when is this s*** gonna end"

FATD in comparison was just a miserable listening experience.

For someone like Drake it actually makes sense to have longer albums because he has people who like the different types of music he makes. Like this is especially clear on CLB. Most people have different favorites.
