NWTS aged way better than DAMN

I will give you GKMC and TPAB for their conceptual brilliance and pushing the album format

But NWTS achieved a level of balance with rap and modern pop sensibilities struck a balance that Kendrick attempted with Damn and Morale but hasn’t been able to achieve yet. He does not have a mainstream rap record that good

Literally all of Kendrick's albums are "mainstream rap records," they don't have to be pop rap albums like Drake typically makes to fit that bill.

Crazy how this really is already aging into an all timer and its just the first one

Idk man, DAMN is incredible on its own for multiple reasons. It's definitely comparable to NWTS since Kendrick basically took that idea of the album being played in reverse.

But having the narrative of the album still be something unique is crazy af.

Yeah I guess could see where you're coming from, but Swimming Pools is just as poppy as anything he did on either of those joints. And I don't think that's an outlier track that doesn't mesh with the rest of the album. TPAB is the only record I'd say eschewed sounding like a modern mainstream rap record.

DAMN is a pretty masterfully executed "dumbing down" of the formula Kendrick had been playing with up to that point. It has hits and weirder tracks and a conceptual bent, but he's able to condense it all into something more immediately digestible and less "boring." I definitely see the argument that it's his best album, even if I'd absolutely put TPAB above it.
