why do I keep seeing people act as if this movie in anyway absolves her of guilt or makes it look like she didnt in some way lie or deceive the public. Its as if they needed a portion of the documentary to directly say "ELIZABETH HOLMES IS GUILTY AND IS A BAD PERSON"
so you would say overgassed?
A little bit but still one of the most fascinating things ill probably ever see in a theater

oh yeah I agree on that some good discussions are being had about what constitutes a documentary , awards discussion, plot discussions and what makes it captivating/ elevates it past tv episode
don’t see how they deserve it
phenomenal blocking here, didn’t feel like the movie ever kept this level for its exhaustive runtime
i honestly feel like it’s great gossip for people, i don’t know how people are claiming this is a pensive introspective work, it’s honestly just a 3 hr nathan for you bit
I almost choked on my drink when he said that
felt like we were robbed of really hearing some real s*** there
i thought this was gonna provoke the unravelling all the critics raved about
in retrospect i’m kinda skeeved out by their decision to keep it in the final cut. doesn’t go anywhere and just feels like it’s there to shock. really weird moment with billy too
super over gassed i was pissed honestly
LMFAO

they mirrored this shot with the last one

It is a very gossip water cooler movie that lacks a level of substance even present in some nathan for you episodes. We begin the movie knowing she lies and deceives then she does so throughout the movie possible. While never truly facing what she did to patients and those ramifications who also have husbands and kids potentially. Which is to me what I thought was the central point of this going in. Instead she kind of becomes a punching bag for the audience that arent the patients to laugh at. As was the hulu show it appears to some degree. Making dramatization after dramatization of serious topics to laugh at the seriousness of them to cope with the dark reality and go "OMG THE LIAR POTENTIALLY LIED AND DECEIVED AND EW SAW IT LIVE WE CAN AGREE WE SEE IT IN THE ZOOMED IN SHOTS OF HER FACE " . Its filled with cool looking shots but its moments dont emotionally resonate or move to the degree many reviews would lead you to believe. To the point where you ask people the highlight of the movie. A joke about miscommunication of someone with the last name who?
The lady sleep deprived with two children with a baby daddy on cocaine who now is raising those kids alone . where I think the kids deserve money from milking the parents lives for content and awards||. Then at the climax you think || Nathan surely going to mention the insinuation of an abusive relationship, control, power of attorney and how its more than just tweets or money from a movie that filmed hundreds of hours of her life to dilute into a box office smash||. Instead it is race against time to || ask if she knew they potentially would receive a box office percentage of a chopped up bit presenting her like a liar . Starring a womans portrayal of her that made her cry recreating moments that she knows cant be recorded so she is possibly more open to being herself and trusting nathan. Only to be betrayed yet again for a chance at a best picture nominee for a movie that they now after release acknowledge isnt a documentary isnt real and contains actors
The audience went to this "documentary" wanting to s*** on , meme the subject like she is evil animal. she is a human being. Human beings lie and deceive. She partially did it for money , fame , accolades potentially but really again if you look at her interviews and everything she isnt even a person that appears like she was truly happy with the fame, accolades and money. nor does she truly appear happy now facing prison for touching that. If she wanted money fame accolades there were much better safer ways with an easier deceptive scale to do so if she was a manipulative genius people make her out to be.
So 3 hours later I am left realizing nathan and lance created a narrative to create a successful product just like she did. Obviously the gravity of deceiving patients and investors is worse than deception of presenting a human being that has caused destruction and emotional turmoil but its still deception.
dropping one potentially hypocritical movie that execution betrays its message was meta and I was able to say "thats the point" doing two is like I dont even know anymore
AFTER ALL THIS ITS NOT EVEN SUBMITTING FOR BEST DOCUMENTARY
According to Sean Fennessey and Amanda Dobbins, the Documentary category is very strict in its criteria, so You Can't See Everything may not be eligible to be nominated there
we can officially acknowledge that its not a documentary we are making progress
On paper it is but it's definitely not a standard documentary in the usual sense
The best way to categorize this film in my opinion is as a character study biopic in the style of a documentary feature

well yeah once you have a certain level of manipulation of reality its not just the oscar category that is strict in criteria . Its also others.

Do you think this is truly a character study of Elizabeth Holmes where you learn a wealth of information you didn't know about her before going into the movie?

I agree, which is why you can't really look at this as a standard documentary

The Act of Killing does some very similiar things with less manipulation of the reality. Including Reenactments
Do you think this is truly a character study of Elizabeth Holmes where you learn a wealth of information you didn't know about her before going into the movie?
I don't think you have to learn something new about a subject for a film to qualify as a character study, but I think there are a few new aspects to Holmes that are revealed in this

the movie is preaching to the choir. Very few aspects. I love Nathans work and his questions and unique approach is quite subdued in this . Its 3 hours and I am left wondering how much of the 16 hours a day filmed content of 34+ days would better fit here than what we got

I disagree
You cant say Nathan uses his talents to the full degree Yes some love Amanda Seyfried in all this but I cant help but feel if the budget used for her could be better used for more odd interactive ways like that. How people so clearly see Billy being hired and paid is a conflict of interest but PAYING THE ACTRESS WHO PLAYED HER IN THE HULU SHOW AND RUNNING THAT PERSON FOR ACTING AWARDS FOR A DOCUMENTARY ISNT IS BAFFLING. Astounding
