I think the secret was sampling Adrian younge throughout the whole album. The second prhyme was sampling this guy antman wonder. Huge difference. A few great songs. But nothing near the level of 1.

i kinda understand the comparison people try to make in the sense of a lot of older premier being quite sparse but it doesn't hit like that when the production sounds so clean

maybe but i feel like what the guy said about the adrian yonge samples holds water, the actual musical composition elements on prhyme 1 feel more full which works better with the cleaner sound

the roc marci and ransom projects also sound a bit more full when it comes to the samples and i would say i enjoyed them more than the beats off this from the first couple spins

also might be a mixing/mastering thing

For the record Nas went crazy on this, but the beats were mostly terrible. I pray that Nas releases at least one more album after this with better production.
