Might be a lil too weird for the general public

I know what u mean but if he’d take a more mainstreamy approach like on some songs of HTATM he should be aight. David Bowie and Prince were considered "too weird" too back then

Whole music industry filled with kids that just wanna be famous. Execs should've known they were never gonna get much real talent from f***ing social media platforms. Alot of attention seekers who just want their name out there, artist don't have any idea about art and music more then a consumer nowadays.

They successfully programmed most average music listeners - look at KTT back then "nerdy" s*** like Tyler, Death Grips was cool nowadays there is no difference between KTT and Rap Caviar base

Yea,social media/internet gathered up everyone and made everyone consume music similarly. Early KTT1 didn't have a problem being nerdy or out there cause there was an understanding of what mainstream and underground truly was. Most underground s*** was on the web/had to be found on the web and was mostly discussed on the web.

Mainstream s*** was on TV,radio,in the mall when you were shopping etc. Now the lines are blurred,Griselda has Google commercials like their f***ing U2,you can literally ignore who the biggest rapper in the world is right now,if you want too, someone will try to put on to some underground s*** and it'll still be too similar to whats popular right now.

    Music is f***ed

    Two thoughts:

    • They’re missing a few folks and this is a very US centric look on the issue but I guess that makes sense given the source
    • I think Gen Z simply doesn’t place becoming a crossover artist on the same pedestal as previous generations in regards to becoming famous

More on that second point: this gen’s Drakes/Rihanna’s/Taylor’s etc exist out there in the world - and are probably famous in non-music fields - but because becoming a crossover artist is a part of the old guard when it comes to being famous, they didn’t gravitate towards music. The question is why did becoming a crossover artist become an outdated way to be a star to gen z collectively?

“ why did becoming a crossover artist become an outdated way to be a star to gen z collectively?”

Gen Z values raw innovation over crossing over into an existing lame mainstream

Y’all are forgetting millions of kids grew up in an augmented reality. They don’t care about the outside world, especially the people they are told to care about. Country caring only about their own culture is how they got ahead of everyone rn. @Brave @RVI

Do you propose a more insular approach to other major US genres is the way upward now? Specifically hiphop too

  • Aug 10, 2023

without even getting into a lot of the music possibly just sucking and not being original outside of niche pockets…

music takes place on too many fragmented outlets compared to the previous idea of what we considered a superstar

radio, magazine and video countdowns not mattering anymore is what changed

video countdowns radio and magazines gave it all an arena to take place on and you had independent/new/left field acts next to established hitmakers at times which took the genre forward.

Yes. This is what made past decades great. The ‘00s and ‘10s made crossing over jump the shark. Country, rap, Latin, and whatever the new “rock” will be should focus on being great by their own standards first

20 years ago you had rappers who are practically underground today selling 100-200k+ 1st week...man have the times changed

the Griseldas and co don't wanna be in the spotlight like that I guess...

well if they cant change how it is now try something new or old
