The ironic thing is that it’s never been a better time to push some out of the box newer artists that might not have thrived in another era. There’s the obvious crop of breakout stars in waiting like Pinkpantheress or Zack Bryan, but why not think a little bigger?

Kim Petras should have been the eye opener that fan favorites who never broke big but still hold a solid fanbase are one hit away from the next tier. Carly Rae Jepsen, Troye Sivan, James Blake, Kelela, Caroline Polachek, Don Toliver - they’re all begging for a major lane push. Granted, as a fan, I don’t necessarily want them to go down that path lol, but from a purely strategic standpoint it feels obvious to me.

And then there’s dozens of bubbling under folks who clearly are making waves but need a hit or a key feature to bring them to a wider audience. Teezo Tocuhdown has serious momentum from Modern Jam, Flyana Boss need a new song but they’ve definitley caught people’s attention, hell even someone like BLP Kosher is a What’s Poppin away from the mainstream.

Leverage TikTok, leverage features, leverage remixes, get creative for once in your goddamn A&R careers. Just because it’s not the traditional pool doesn’t mean it’s not a prime opportunity to make waves; in fact, anyone who cracks the code rn could have a megastar on their hands because the public is waiting for it.

I think part of it is that they haven’t realized how different a pop success can look yet

As much as I hate his ass, Morgan is also an example of it. If he were in pop or rap he’d be called the breakout star of the year in the same piece. Hell, he almost kept Olivia from the #1
