cigarettes were insanely demonized all throughout elementary school for me, i think we were the first generation to fully be engulfed by all the anti cigarette propaganda

smoking weed was always seen as the better option because it wasn’t addictive

    Facts

But also how long has anti cig propanganda in its current form been around?

Ok so my theory about why my gen and under look at cigs differently than previous gens

Mainstream pop culture decided (around 2015, correlating with the blm movement) that it was cooler than ever to be black and embrace black culture (including blacks who were removed from "typical" blackness but now wanna listen to hip-hop and say nigga)

As a result, young people looked at cigs as being white, which is the opposite of being cool

Every person my age or my younger brother's age now look at cigs differently and will roast people for smoking them

This was not the case years ago

Is there many warning messages about cigarettes in the US?
There's been a huge decline in smoking here in Australia but its more down to the health risks, the ads and packaging of cigarettes here is very confronting and I wouldn't recommend googling it

    Basically what I'm saying is

Cigs aren't demonized for our gen just because of health reasons, cause if that was the case they wouldve been just as demonized by previous gens...and we know they werent as much

It's because we were the first gen who grew up seeing that blackness was cool for everyone (on a surface level ofc) and smoking cigs is the opposite of that

Completely cultural as crazy as it may sound

  • Feb 11, 2020

Vaping was big in HS though. I aint do that s*** cause I thought it was dumb. You not getting high and youre getting addicted to something with serious health risks. Whats the point of that?

I remember being upset years ago because only the snippet was out years ago.

Idk anything about that tbh. Maybe thats how you grew up. Around my way, its just because of the health issues.

Ofc that's what will be said. That's the conscious thing you would think, "it's not healthy"

But we've always known it wasn't healthy. There's always been anti cig propaganda.

So what suddenly changed culturally to finally convince young people to stop f***ing with cigs?

  • Used to think my lips were too big then I said f*** it I am, who i am. @LDD

When did they start teaching you that cigs are bad for you in school?
