I have had a love/hate relationship with Mr Morale.

After 5 years of waiting, it just wasn't the album I wanted to hear. I wanted Kendrick to come back with a vengeance. Smoking on top 5's and all that.
I loved a couple of songs but overall thought it was Kendrick's worst album. The live show made me appreciate it a lil more though.

But I just re-listened top to bottom. A year removed from all expectations, 5 year waits, sales talk...this is genuinely an incredible album.

After a full year of lackluster hiphop imo, I felt how much effort was put into the soundscape of this album. I could close my eyes and imagine this man on stage. This s*** is f***ing cinematic. Who else in hiphop other than Kanye (and not even him anymore) puts this much effort into their projects?

Mr Morale and the Big Steppers is another incredible album from kendrick. I think as time keeps passing, and people look back, appreciation for it will only grow.

Instead of comparing it to his other works, I'm just thankful we have someone still making music like this.

It's my 3rd fave Kendrick album(4th if we include S80).

I feel the album is underrated because it has the least bangers or smash hits of any Kendrick album but it's a very strong concept album and deeply personal like you said.

It basically reminds me of 4:44 in many ways in terms of the self reflection and vulnerability but Kendrick took it a step further with the theming.

People can clown this album if they want but I'm still glad that Kendrick and Tyler push the envelope in mainstream rap more than just giving the usual bloated rap album with similar themes that serves more as a playlist filled with bangers than anything else.

Tyler said it when it came out, a lot of people on here don't really want their artists to grow up contrary to what they might say. that's why the s*** on here dont really phase me @hayabusa we had to go through a whole year of people saying TPAB had no bangers before people started hailing it as a landmark.

This s*** is nothin new lol

I have mixed feelings on it too, I like the ambition and the messaging and most of the songs, but overall the execution was a slight miss for his extremely high standards
