I really hope to god you’re trolling for eLikes but you come off as genuine in all your follow-ups so I’ll just assume this is all real
Please stop doing ANYTHING that is legally or financially binding with your mother. No leases, no f***ing loans, no handouts, nothing bro. Go work your ass off 40+ hours a week while you’re in school and get your bread up by your lonesome. This woman is dragging you down
Dont lol

That's exactly what I do. Like I don’t co-sign, give out money, or anything. It's just my name is on our lease and our landlord will not respond to any of our messages.
In fact, I sent a request to be removed from the lease so my mother could file bankruptcy and put the unpaid rent in it. However, the bankruptcy lawyer told my mom I should file too since the landlord could still come after me even if I was removed from the lease.

The bankruptcy lawyer told my mom that the landlord can still come after me for unpaid rent even if I was removed from the lease due tomy mom's bankruptcy.

The relationship subs are quite sad. So many people settle for the s***tiest of partners :(

The bankruptcy lawyer told your mom that? You're believing that bc your mom said that? Only trust words from the lawyer directly to you, no middle-men. I do not believe for a second that there would be any legal obligation for any missed payments that occur AFTER you are removed from the lease. Make sure the lease is paid while you are on it, and document each and every line of communication between you and the landlord + condition of the rental
Get removed ASAP tho (which might require your mom to agree for you to get off of it, since you were both on it originally. I forget how this process worked when my ex and I had a lease and I got removed from it, but I'm pretty sure we both had to sign me off of it)

Hurst to say but judging by your other posts about your mother and to agree with another poster, only trust what the lawyer tells you directly. She seems to have terrible monetary judgement and based on your other threads you seem like a casualty in her decision making

The bankruptcy lawyer was actually on the phone with me and my mom and she explained that if I file bankruptcy my credit would take a hit but I’d be able to rebuild it.
Also, my mother and I both signed a document asking for me to be removed from the lease when the rent first hit but the landlord will not respond. We also haven’t paid the rent yet because we don’t have our mailbox keys nor our actual mailbox number so we get them in our own.

The bankruptcy lawyer told me this directly already but I have good credit I don’t want to file bankruptcy for literally no reason. There has to be another eye to get out of lease. My mom was just going to sublet but the lease says subletting is not allowed but the landlord will not respond to any of our messages. We don’t have a mailbox key so we can’t get our paychecks and we don’t even know our mailbox #
my mom and I recently moved into an apartment in Richmond Virginia. Unfortunately, we haven’t been given a mailbox key, there are roaches, and we feel like we’ve been misled by the landlord. The landlord won’t respond either.
The problem is, my mom thinks both of us filing for bankruptcy could help us get out of the lease. My mom is going to file bankruptcy anyway and it’s going to cause the leasing agency to come after me.
But here’s the thing: I’ve worked incredibly hard since I turned 18 to build up my credit score, which currently sits at a solid 730. I have high credit limits, and I’m determined to maintain my good standing. Whereas my mom on the other hand has a score in the 400s and has filed bankruptcy multiple times.
