The 3rd most annoying song of all time behind Radioactive and Blinding Lights
An artist can improve by all those technical metrics but whether or not the work actually exceeds their early lightning in a bottle type breakthroughs is pretty subjective and up to taste
I’m sure Abel’s vocal performances have improved a lot but Max Martin beats might be technically better than HOB production, better microphones in use, more budget and more people to perfect it
But surely you can see how for some people that’s not going to be better than the raw, unpolished early stuff where an artist is first establishing who they are. There’s often a magic there. Especially in a case like this where the sounds are so radically different. I’m indifferent on Abel as a whole but there’s a definite unique vibe of the early production, and sometimes just getting better at your craft isn’t going to mean your music is more interesting.
As far as Abel I feel like it’s up to taste. I can see why people would prefer his old or new stuff, neither opinion is invalid or crazy
That’s fair honestly. I’m not mad about that when it put it that way. But when mfs say it’s TRASH then I’m like that’s definitely a lie and just wrong to say
Or maybe music is just subjective
It is, but there have been actual studies done on this phenomenon, I’m not making this up. It’s why every generation says “music isn’t as good as it used to be” after they reach their adult age. From a Slate article about this idea:
“Petr Janata, a psychologist at University of California–Davis, agrees with the sociality theory, explaining that our favorite music “gets consolidated into the especially emotional memories from our formative years.” He adds that there may be another factor in play: the reminiscence bump, a name for the phenomenon that we remember so much of our younger adult lives more vividly than other years, and these memories last well into our senescence. According to the reminiscence bump theory, we all have a culturally conditioned “life script” that serves, in our memory, as the narrative of our lives. When we look back on our pasts, the memories that dominate this narrative have two things in common: They’re happy, and they cluster around our teens and early 20s.
Why are our memories from these years so vibrant and enduring? Researchers at the University of Leeds proposed one enticing explanation in 2008: The years highlighted by the reminiscence bump coincide with “the emergence of a stable and enduring self.” The period between 12 and 22, in other words, is the time when you become you. It makes sense, then, that the memories that contribute to this process become uncommonly important throughout the rest of your life. They didn’t just contribute to the development of your self-image; they became part of your self-image—an integral part of your sense of self.“

It lost that record to Heat Waves. Blinding Lights was around 80 weeks and Heat Waves was around 90? HW is the biggest Billboard song now
you need to go and do some research on billboard and how its chart works
I’ve seen it all lol niggas said the album with Falling Back is better than Take Care.
HNVM > Take Care
Lot of Drake fans (rightfully) hold this opinion yet get mad when someone implies they like Abel’s 2020 work over his 2011 work
It’s not being an Abel Stan. Drake set a precedent with miller. I just saw an interview of him sharing he never got officially paid for anything with publishing EVER and just under the table.
Did you understand why he didn't get any money from publishing and why Drake had to pay him under the table?
I’ve seen it all lol niggas said the album with Falling Back is better than Take Care.
One day you'll understand the greatness of Falling Back
Honestly, Nevermind is as impactful as Take Care
